Jeopardy!’s Adriana Harmeyer praised for ‘sneaky’ tactic for winning as fans reveal moment that got them ‘yelling at TV’

JEOPARDY! fans have noticed a unique trend in contestant Adriana Harmeyer’s gameplay.

The Jeopardy! contestant was praised after she took home her sixth win in a row – the first person to manage the feat all season.

On Wednesday, Ken Jennings took the helm as Adriana competed against newcomers Allee and Kyle, and fans were impressed by her tactics.

The game show contestant played the long game, opting to rely on her knowledge rather than going all-in on Daily Doubles.

“Adriana is a sneaky ice cold player. She’s not DD-hunting that much and not very aggressive with her wagering but by the end of DJ, she has a runaway game!

“Just pure buzzer skill and huge knowledge base. I hope she continues her streak, I would love to see how far she can take this!” one person wrote on Reddit.

“I think she is playing intelligently. By Double Jeopardy, it has been mostly clear that she can beat the other contestants on knowledge or the buzzer, or both. So she can hedge her bets on DDs somewhat so it gives her a better chance to come back from a miss,” a second agreed.

In contrast, television viewers at home complained about Allee, who came second place.

The trivia devotee became very quiet in the questions before Final Jeopardy!, and fans said she might have had a shot of winning if she tried to make some guesses.

“I don’t know if it’s because I’m more in tune with it or because it’s happening more often, but this is the second time in like three weeks that second place could’ve broken the lock with a correct answer on Clue 60 and didn’t realize that they needed to take a guess…

“I’m surprised Allee didn’t take the time in that position to prioritize remembering hers and Adriana’s scores and saying ‘this is how close I am to making FJ matter,'” one person raged.

“Yeah I was yelling at the TV on the last two clues. It’s possible that Allee was fully aware of the situation but didn’t even have a guess on either clue, but even then, just ring in and hope you come up with something…” a second agreed.

FAN FAVE

This isn’t the only element of Adriana’s gameplay to win over fans.

Alongside playing it safe with her Daily Doubles bets, fans also noted that she doesn’t seek them out on the board.

Masters! champ James Holzhauer became known for his tactic of picking randomly across the board to seek them out.

In contrast, Adriana plays the board from the top down, and many viewers prefer her more methodical approach.

Jeopardy! Universe

Jeopardy! first aired in 1964 until 1975. Then the nighttime version began in 1974. Since then, many spinoffs of the game show have emerged. Here they all are:

Jeopardy! – (syndicated) 1974 to present, weekdays on ABC at 7 pm ET.

Tournament of Champions – 1984 to present, features the top champions who have appeared on the show since the last tournament.

Second Chance Tournament – 2022 to present features hand-selected non-winners from the season prior, where the prize is entry into Champions Wildcard.

Champions Wildcard – 2023 to present, features all one, two and three-day champions from the season prior worth entry into the Tournament of Champions.

Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament (syndication) – 2023 to present, features past greats invited by producers to vie for a slot in Masters.

Jeopardy! Masters (primetime) – 2023 to present, features the six highest-ranked Jeopardy! champions competing against each other.

Celebrity Jeopardy! (primetime) – 1992 to present, has celebrities compete against each other to raise money for charity.

Pop Culture Jeopardy (streaming) – 2024 to present, will feature teams of three tasked with pop culture trivia on Amazon Prime, host and airdate TBD

Jeopardy! has done away with specialized tournaments like its College Tournaments, Kids Week, and Professor’s Tournament to gear towards a more sports-like model, with Masters being the top of the Jeopardy pyramid.

Other versions of Jeopardy! have fizzled out throughout the years as well, like Sports Jeopardy!.

“And she plays the columns from top to bottom!” one fan praised on Instagram.

“There goes the argument that finding the DDs and luck takes all the fun out of it!” a second rejoiced.

CLOSE SHAVE

While Adriana rarely gets an answer wrong, she almost made a major mistake on Friday’s Final Jeopardy.

“An island near Cebu City has a statue of LapuLapu and a monument to this man that LapuLapu is said to have killed in 1521,” the contestants were prompted.

Both of Adriana’s rivals got the wrong answer, one for guessing Atilla The Hun and the second for guessing Captain Cook.

When Adriana revealed her board, she showed that she’d originally written Captain Cook, but crossed it out at the last minute.

Instead, she changed her answer to Magellen, and added $11,000 to her total to win by a landslide.

“That was a good change on her part to maintain her winning streak,” one fan noted on YouTube.

Fans also noticed that she relied on getting her money up before hedging major bets
