Serena Williams recently revealed that she doesn’t step on weighing scales anymore after becoming ‘kinder’ with her body image issues. The former World No.1 has been vocal about her struggles with the way she looks, amplified by constant scrutiny during her career.Williams is widely regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time and for good reasons. The American has claimed 23 singles Grand Slam titles and was ranked No.1 in the world for 319 weeks. However, the tennis star was also on the receiving end of constant scrutiny for her muscular physique during her career, and she once explained that the criticism led to her having body image issues.
“When I was young I thought I should be built more like an athlete – long and lean – not with a womanly figure. Unless I’m eating really healthy, I feel that way almost every other week. I feel as if I can do better and be smaller, which I think is just a natural thing for women to feel. We’re taught that we have to look a certain way.”
