Magic Johnson has always been a part of Los Angeles basketball teams, whether as a player or an investor. The Los Angeles Lakers legend now has Cameron Brink, Rickea Jackson, and McKenzie Forbes to represent his freshly tuned Sparks team. And ever since they have been part of the team the current Governor only has words of encouragement for the rookies. The number 2 pick in the WNBA draft shared such one story on a podcast.
Recently, the reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year joined Paul George on his ‘Podcast P with Paul George.’ Brink discussed that when she met Johnson, he imparted his wisdom which left her quite astonished. The 6’4″ was asked about Magic Johnson and if she had any interactions with him. Brink simply replied, “I love him.”
About meeting with him, she shared that alongside Jackson and Forbes, they met him during a Lakers game. She broke the ice by saying, “Am I as tall as you?” But later said that Johnson was actually a big guy.
Johnson asked the rookies to be unapologetically themselves. Expounding on this, Brink said, “You’re the two draftees, you’re coming in here. He was like, why can’t you take a vet spot? Go take a vet spot.” After following the collegiate career of both Brinks and Jackson, Magic knows that they don’t shy away from responsibilities. He also told them, “Just be you and be ruthless.”
