The most anticipated game of the WNBA playoffs turned out to be a one-sided affair, but not without controversy. The Connecticut Sun easily defeated the Indiana Fever, 98-63, in Game 1 on Sunday. However, the game’s turning point came early, sparking outrage among fans.

About eight and a half minutes into the first quarter, Fever rookie Caitlin Clark took a hard finger to the eye from Sun guard Dijonai Carrington. To the frustration of many viewers, no foul was called. Clark’s right eye began to swell and bruise as the game progressed, amplifying the backlash towards the officials.

Fans quickly voiced their anger on social media, demanding action. Later, a new video surfaced on X showing a different angle of the incident, reinforcing the belief that Carrington’s foul was intentional. Fever supporters were outraged.

“This is unacceptable. The @WNBA needs to take immediate action. How can they allow a star like Caitlin Clark to be intentionally injured?” one fan tweeted.

“That was clearly intentional! The league has to step in and suspend her!” another fan wrote.

“She should be suspended. @IndianaFever, you need to challenge this!” echoed a third fan.

Clark, who finished her playoff debut with 11 points, eight assists, and four rebounds, confirmed after the game that while her eye was swollen, it didn’t impact her shooting. However, the controversy surrounding the no-call only intensified as the conversation continued online. Fans were left demanding accountability, particularly in protecting a player of Clark’s caliber.
