WATCH: Angel Reese and Kysre Gondrezick vibe to Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s hit on TikTok after Chicago Sky’s first win
Angel Reese got off to an impactful start in her WNBA career, as the Chicago Sky staved off the Dallas Wings with a fourth-quarter barrage to win 83-74. It was the Sky’s first victory, after they lost to the Wings in the season-opener.
Reese was instrumental to the win with 11 points, 3-of-9 shooting, nine rebounds, and two assists. She also hustled in all her 25 minutes on the court, grabbing seven offensive rebounds, and one steal.
With that performance, in just her second professional game, Reese was understandably celebratory about the win. This year’s seventh overall pick posted a TikTok video with teammate Kysre Gondrezick celebrating the win to the tune of Kendrick Lamar’s “Poetic Justice” ft. Drake.
Reese mentioned Gondrezick — who scored two points in three minutes in the win — in the post, calling her:
“My pookieeeee”
Reese’s second game was a stark contrast to her WNBA opener. She only had one point, one rebound, and one assist in the first half of her first game, missing all her first three shots. Her only point came from the free-throw line, which was her bread-and-butter at LSU, making 72.6% of her freebies.
She then finished her first game with 12 points, and seven rebounds, in a losing effort.
While some thought her game would not translate to the WNBA, Reese’s early performances suggested otherwise. She has been an impactful piece for the Sky and is on pace to earn more minutes in a starting role.
Angel Reese vows to improve game after 1-1 start
Reese played like her billing of “fourth quarter barbie” in the Sky’s win vs. Wings. However, the 6-foot-3 forward struggled with fouls in the game, picking up four personal fouls. While it did not affect their desired result, it held Reese back on defense and hurt her rhythm for most of the matchup.
With that dilemma, Reese promised to remain honest on defense and not commit as many fouls.
“4th quarter barbieee ima stay outta fouls trouble yall but whew im so happy for this team! FIRST WNBA WIN & MORE TO COME!,” said Reese, in a post on X.
The Sky went on a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter. Reese punctuated the scoring burst with a two-point basket with four-and-a-half minutes left to extend the Sky’s lead to seven.
Before the run, Reese completed a three-point play to snatch the lead from the Wings and spark the Sky’s finishing rally.
Reese has certainly added immediate impact for the Sky — and she will get better as the season goes on.
