Wheel of Fortune fans shared their thoughts on the various vacations that contestants of the show win and how vastly different they can be
Going on big game shows means you get a chance at a big vacation prize – but some winners might leave disappointed.
One show that offers these big prizes is Wheel of Fortune, which has a prize puzzle vacation up for grabs every game. Vacations can range from trips all over the world to small American cities.
While fans of the series tend to complain about difficult puzzles or the newest host, Ryan Seacrest, the latest thing fans are talking about are the vacay prizes. Fans have been taking to social media to share their thoughts.
In a discussion thread on Reddit, one user wrote: “Omg!!!! Some days you get ITALY some days you get a trip three hours from your house…so wild.”

“My wife just said the same. There should be more consistency,” another responded. In another thread, one fan penned: “Imagine getting on [Wheel of Fortune] and winning the coveted Prize Puzzle, and you can’t wait to hear if you’re going to Turks and Caicos or Barcelona or [on] an Alaskan cruise, only to hear [announcer] Jim [Thornton] tell you you’re going to Salem, MA, or Savannah, GA.”
The fan added: “Nothing against those places, but come on, that’s a road trip for half the contestants.” Another fan noted that Wheel of Fortune isn’t the only show where trips can sometimes be a letdown.
“It happened once on The Price is Right too. A lady was laughing at her trip and Drew [Carey, the host] asked why. She said that the place (ski resort I think?) was less than two hours from her house,” they said.
It’s not just Reddit where fans are sharing their thoughts. One X user noted as they watched an episode: “This poor girl was working hard to solve the prize puzzle on Wheel of Fortune and ended up winning thinking she’s getting a fancy trip. She got a trip to…Salem, Massachusetts. Her face.”
Many have pointed out that some of the smaller cities have amazing attractions, but there’s always a comparison. “I love Salem personally, but I rarely travel, and even I have been there,” one person replied to the earlier comment on X. “I’m just saying, if I won that trip, but a couple days earlier someone won a trip to Greece, it would be a bit of a letdown.”
