Caitlin Clark often talks about this one moment that totally changed her life. It was just a quick interaction, lasting about 10 seconds, but it made all the difference. In that short time, something clicked for her, and she saw her potential in a whole new light. From then on, she went full steam ahead, putting everything she had into reaching her goals. It just goes to show, you never know when a small moment can turn everything around.

Clark, runner-up in the last two college basketball seasons, revealed that one of the most emotional and memorable moments of her childhood was when she hugged and asked Maya Moore, former player and 2014 WNBA MVP, to sign her jersey. “I still remember when i was freaking out, ran across the court and gave you a hug.”

That day back in 2014, which Caitlin continues to tell everyone about, began with a trip with her dad from their home in Des Moines Iowa, to Minneapolis to watch a Minnesota Lynx game. At that time Maya Moore, the former first pick of the 2011 draft, like Clark this year, was the player dominating the league with two titles already under her belt in just 3 years playing for the Minnesota team.

I mean, maybe Clark doesn’t know it, but in one of her games as a player in Iowa, some girl hugged her and she gave her an autograph, and in a few years, that girl turns out to be the number 1 pick in the 2034 draft. That’s the way life goes.

“I didn’t have a cell phone, my dad didn’t have his cell phone, so I just ran towards her, it was really cool.”

Maya Moore, very sincerely, said she didn’t remember that moment, clearly because she was the most famous player in those days. But she is passionate about knowing that these kinds of relationships, of exchanges, exist, that she as a player can sow that seed that generates enthusiasm, motivation for a change for the better within the women’s basketball community.

Thank you for watching

Caitlin Clark is set to make her debut on a WNBA court this Friday at 8 p.m. ET when the Indiana Fever face off against the Dallas Wings in a preseason clash. While this game marks the preseason, it will serve as a significant test for the Fever against the Wings, who advanced to the second round of the 2023 playoffs. You can watch and follow this game in the WNBA League Pass.
