Jeopardy!’s Victoria Groce pulls off her biggest achievement yet right after winning Masters special

JEOPARDY! star Victoria Groce has made history with her latest major win.

The Jeopardy! player won the Masters special last month, and has gone on to score another major win just days later.

In her latest milestone moment, Victoria, 43, won the World Quizzing Championships.

The annual competition sees talented quizzers from across the globe tackle tough questions, and Victoria is the first North American to take the crown.

On Reddit, one fan celebrated, “Your Jeopardy! Masters champion is now… the World Quizzing Champion!

“Having come just one point short last year, Victoria Groce has finally broken through, and her fourth Top 10 finish brings her the first ever Gold for an American in the WQC!

“Well-done to all those who represented Jeopardy and American quizzing excellence, and congratulations to Queen Victoria, happy and glorious, long to reign over us.”

Many other game show fans responded in the thread, congratulating Victoria on her impressive winning streak.

“Wow. Didn’t think an American would break through so soon. What an accomplishment!” said one.

“Yay!! What a great year for her,” wrote a second social media user.

THE CHASE IS ON

Many fans called Victoria a queen thanks to her nickname on a competing quiz show.

Victoria appeared on Season 3 of The Chase, and her name coupled with her unrivaled quizzing skills saw her dubbed “The Queen.”

However, Victoria admitted that she didn’t know whether The Chase would continue after it last aired in July 2023.

“I assume you may be under an NDA (non-disclosure agreement), but are there any beans you can spill about future episodes of The Chase, or is the show likely done for the moment?” one fan asked during a Q&A with Victoria on Reddit.

“We are kind of in limbo! We are neither canceled nor renewed,” Victoria responded,

“I am hoping that the fact that we were asked to talk about it on Jeopardy! is a good sign.”

Jeopardy! Universe

Jeopardy! first aired in 1964 until 1975. Then the nighttime version began in 1974. Since then, many spinoffs of the game show have emerged. Here they all are:

Jeopardy! – (syndicated) 1974 to present, weekdays on ABC at 7 pm ET.

Tournament of Champions – 1984 to present, features the top champions who have appeared on the show since the last tournament.

Second Chance Tournament – 2022 to present features hand-selected non-winners from the season prior, where the prize is entry into Champions Wildcard.

Champions Wildcard – 2023 to present, features all one, two and three-day champions from the season prior worth entry into the Tournament of Champions.

Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament (syndication) – 2023 to present, features past greats invited by producers to vie for a slot in Masters.

Jeopardy! Masters (primetime) – 2023 to present, features the six highest-ranked Jeopardy! champions competing against each other.

Celebrity Jeopardy! (primetime) – 1992 to present, has celebrities compete against each other to raise money for charity.

Pop Culture Jeopardy (streaming) – 2024 to present, will feature teams of three tasked with pop culture trivia on Amazon Prime, host and airdate TBD

Jeopardy! has done away with specialized tournaments like its College Tournaments, Kids Week, and Professor’s Tournament to gear towards a more sports-like model, with Masters being the top of the Jeopardy pyramid.

Other versions of Jeopardy! have fizzled out throughout the years as well, like Sports Jeopardy!.

Before Victoria’s hopeful words, Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings, 50, seemed to hint that The Chase was over for good.

“And our viewers probably remember you from The Chase, where you were known as The Queen,” he said to Victoria on his show, before Victoria corrected him by emphasizing, “Are.”

“Ken said, ‘You were known as The Queen on The Chase,’ and Victoria said, ‘I am still known as that,’ which kind of implied they had different thoughts about the state of that show,” one fan soon noted on a Jeopardy! forum.

A NEW LIFE

While Victoria’s World Quizzing win came soon after taking home her Jeopardy! Masters trophy, she recently revealed that she’s dedicated her life to quizzing.

On the Inside Jeopardy! podcast last week, she shared that she’d made a major change after realizing she needed to focus on her health.

“Ten years ago, I took a month off work that I couldn’t afford to take because I was having migraines basically every single day, and I wanted to see if something would help,” she shared.

“I had to quit going back to school. I had to quit volunteering where I was volunteering. Basically, if it wasn’t going to work and taking care of my kid, I didn’t do it.

“I got back into trivia kind of as a way to maintain my sanity.

“I couldn’t really stand up and work in the lab, but I could lay down in my bed and read a book, and that’s when I started really getting back into trivia and it has been a total lifeline for me through all of that.”
