Dodgers Prospects Josue De Paula, River Ryan & Dalton Rushing Ranked In Keith Law’s 2024 Midseason Top 100 Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers farm system has undergone some changes in recent years due to several graduations and trades, but still boast a strong group for the 2024 season.

Josue De Paula, River Ryan, Dalton Rushing, Gavin Stone and Thayron Liranzo were among the organization’s prospects featured in Keith Law of The Athletic’s top 100 rankings heading into the year.

Now with two months of the regular season in the books, De Paula, Ryan and Rushing were included in Law’s 2024 midseason rankings update.

Stone was removed from the rankings due to being a consistent contributor on the Major League roster, while Liranzo has gotten off to a slow start with High-A Great Lakes.

Dodgers prospects in Keith Law’s 2024 midseason top 100 update

No. 16: Josue De Paula

De Paula entered the 2024 season as Law’s No. 25 ranked prospect and rose nine spots due to a great start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga:

De Paula continues to play well beyond his age at the plate, with an extremely advanced approach for a teenager and plenty of hard contact already. With his physical projection remaining, he looks like a high-OBP, 25+ homer guy in the making. He’s a corner outfielder now and could end up at first base, which is really the only thing holding him out of the global top 10 at the moment.

The 19-year-old has been having a fantastic season with the Quakes, and it would not be surprising if he receives a promotion before the year is over, despite his age. De Paula was part of the Dodgers’ 2022 international signing period class.

No. 45: River Ryan

Ryan entered the 2024 season as Law’s No. 33 ranked prospect but dropped 12 spots due to missing the first two months with a shoulder injury:

Ryan hasn’t pitched at all this year due to “shoulder fatigue,” but the expectation since the spring had always been that we wouldn’t see him until June and he was added to the ACL Dodgers’ roster this week to start building back up. He has top-25 prospect upside if he comes back as he was last year.

Ryan just recently made his 2024 debut after dealing with an injury to start the season, but he posses ace level upside with his athleticism and plus stuff.

The right-hander was acquired by the Dodgers in the 2022 trade that sent Matt Beaty to the San Diego Padres. The Padres originally drafted Ryan in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

No. 50: Dalton Rushing

Rushing entered the 2024 as Law’s No. 86 ranked prospect and rose 36 spots due to a great start with Double-A Tulsa:

Rushing is only catching half-time in Double A, splitting time with the still-struggling Diego Cartaya, but otherwise looks like any on-field effects from last year’s concussion are gone, as he’s making a ton of contact and not missing fastballs while getting to above-average power again. The Dodgers have no place to play him though, now or next year, so I imagine he’s going to be involved in every trade conversation they have this summer.

Rushing has split starts at catcher with Diego Cartaya this season, but it is not impacting his production at the plate. Rushing has continued to produce at a high level, but he faces an uncertain future with the club after Will Smith signed a contract extension this year.
