Ken Jennings Shocked After ‘Jeopardy’ Contestants Get Stumped By Garth Brooks Puzzle

Ken Jennings Shocked After ‘Jeopardy’ Contestants Get Stumped By Garth Brooks Puzzle: “Whoa, How Soon We Forget”

This season’s Jeopardy! contestants might need to brush up on their music repertoire. On Tuesday night’s (Nov. 14) episode of the hit trivia show, contestants Nick Cascone, Brandon Deutsch, and Emily White were met with a “’90s Music” category, per Entertainment Weekly.

The $800 question, read aloud by host Ken Jennings, went as follows: “This country superstar’s ‘Friends in Low Places’ was named CMA Single of the Year in 1991.”

The three contestants were also shown a picture of the correct country artist, who Jennings revealed to be none other than Garth Brooks.

After no one buzzed in, Jennings chimed in, expressing his surprise.

“Whoa, how soon we forget,” he said.

Then, referring to Brooks’ album Garth Brooks in… The Life of Chris Gaines, in which Brooks assumed a fictional persona, Jennings informed the contestants, “That’s Chris Gaines’ alter ego, Garth Brooks.”

Brooks wasn’t the only ’90’s artist that threw last night’s Jeopardy! contestants for a loop. After selecting the $400 puzzle in the same category — which hinted at “All I Want To Do” singer Sheryl Crow — Deutsch incorrectly guessed Shania Twain. White snagged the puzzle from him, and ultimately scored three out of the five puzzles in the category.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Brooks has sold 162 million albums, and nine of his albums are diamond-certified.

Jeopardy! fans took to X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) to call out to the missed music query, per TV Insider. One fan deemed the moment “painful to watch,” while another called the puzzle a “very easy triple stumper.”

White even responded to the reactions.

“Look, y’all, I may have flubbed on the Garth Brooks clue, but I got in on Wu-Tang Clan and that’s way cooler,” she wrote.

Jeopardy! airs weeknights at 7/6c. Check out the website for your local listings.
