‘Forrest Gump 2 trailer’ set in 2024 stars Timothée Chalamet as Tom Hanks’ son
What would a sequel to Forrest Gump look like, 30 years on?
A brand new Forrest Gump ‘trailer’ for 2025 shows the lovable character’s son growing up in the mid-2000s, played by a leading Hollywood actor.
As cool as it would be to get a second Forrest Gump film, it may prove too difficult to live up to the success of the 1994 original.
If you haven’t seen it before, the title follows a boy named Forrest, who isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but manages to live an eventful and successful life despite his shortcomings and the doubts that others have of him.

From playing college football to being in the army to becoming a successful shrimp fisher, we live through the mid 20th-century with Forrest as he navigates his way through life like the rest of us.

It’s an inspirational story that’s considered one of Tom Hanks’ best movies, but it turns out that a second film has never really been seriously considered, according to Variety.
The trailer then, for a proposed sequel to Forrest Gump, is mostly AI generated and fan-edited, to the disappointment of many Bubba Gump fans.

It does look pretty cool though, with Timothée Chalamet taking the role of Forrest Gump Jr. in the trailer, as it opens with him looking over his mother’s grave.
Obviously following on from the original, where Forrest Gump Sr’s Jenny dies of a terminal illness and leaves behind their son for him to raise.
The trailer shows Junior struggling to find his place in the world, similar to his father in the original, featuring some AI-manufactured joking between the two, as well as some emotional reflection from Chalamet’s character about how smart his father really is.

This one-minute trailer was posted on YouTube in July, and it has already garnered over 1.6 million views, with fans clearly intrigued by the prospect of a sequel.
Sadly though, it looks like this is the closest we’ll get to one.

People in the comments felt mixed, to say the least, as one user shared: “Why can’t you let a CLASSIC alone?!”

Another said: “I looked up on IMDb and there is NO such sequel in the making. Thank God.”
However, others seemed excited as a third user commented: “Honestly…this concept would actually be really good.
“An intelligent son finding inspiration from his simple father’s outlook on life.”
A different user wrote: “What’s crazy is this could literally be its own movie without the Forrest Gump title.”

What do you think, does Forrest Gump need or deserve a sequel?
