Shohei Ohtani, the dual-threat sensation, stands as the overwhelming favorite to clinch the National League’s designated hitter starting role. With an impressive 1,773,404 votes, Ohtani dwarfs the competition, leaving Atlanta’s Marcell Ozuna trailing with 940,851 votes. Given Ohtani’s immense popularity and unparalleled skill set, his lead is expected to hold firm through the concluding round of votes.
Despite suffering a broken bone in his hand sidelining him for six to eight weeks, Mookie Betts remains the frontrunner for the shortstop position, engaging in a tight race against Trea Turner. Although Betts’ injury prevents his participation in the July 16 contest at Globe Life Field, earning the starting nod would represent a significant accolade.
First baseman Freddie Freeman finds himself in a strong position, albeit trailing behind Bryce Harper, the Philadelphia Phillies’ powerhouse and the National League’s leading vote-getter across all categories, with 2,037,523 votes. Freeman’s 1,327,918 votes comfortably secure him the second position among NL first basemen, ahead of Matt Olson’s 309,079 votes. It appears Freeman’s route to the All-Star Game might involve selection as a reserve through player votes or a decision by the commissioner’s office.
The Dodgers are well represented, with four players among the top 10 vote-getters in the National League.
