With apologies to Usher, neither Travis Kelce nor Jason Kelce has seen his Super Bowl LVIII halftime performance, not even on YouTube. Travis has an excuse: He was busy tight-ending his way to victory over the San Francisco 49ers. And Jason? He was busy being in absolute awe of Taylor Swift’s magnetic pull.

On a post-Super Bowl 2024 episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast New Heights, published Wednesday, the siblings recapped the weekend’s Super Bowl game and the Kansas City Chiefs’ dramatic overtime victory. The game resulted in Travis’ third Super Bowl ring, and for Jason, a newfound understanding of his brother’s superstar girlfriend.

“There was so much happening in the suite,” Jason said of his viewing experience, which included not only Swift but Blake Lively, Ice Spice, Ashley Avignone, and more as suitemates. “Turns out, everyone wants to meet Taylor.”

“Shaq came in on the frickin’ suite,” he continued, and indeed the former NBA star himself posted about being pumped to meet Swift and gift her the bedazzled, football-shaped purse she carried during the game. “I mean, dude.”

“I think it was my first really understanding kind of some of the things that she has to deal with on a lot of bases because there’s so many star-studded people there that it’s like dude, everybody wants to come see her, but the suite’s only so big,” Jason said. “It was overwhelming, to be honest with you. It was very overwhelming. I was going outside the suite, talking to, you know, Keegan-Michael Key, his wife, and a bunch of people and it was like, the celebrity attendance at the game was pretty unreal. Anyways. So I didn’t watch a lick of [Usher’s performance] either.”

“Vegas Super Bowl, baby, the stars are out,” Travis said. “Gotta love it. Taylor thrives in those situations, she’s been in ’em countless times in her life, so.”

Jason has commented multiple times in the past about being worried about the level of attention his brother receives by being associated with Swift, saying all the way back in October 2023 that it was “weird.”

“On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about, that he is genuine about,” he said in an interview with NBC Sports. “But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’ There’s paparazzi talking about him fueling his car before the game today and I’m like, ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’”

That same month, Travis purchased a new home in Kansas City, reportedly for security reasons. On an episode of Shaq’s podcast this week, Jason confirmed the reasoning.

“Travis knows way more than I do, he had to completely move out of his house,” he said of the brothers’ fame. “People were just staying by his house. And the first day he moved into the new house … [in] a gated community, somebody knocks on the back window of the house.”

That’s not to say there aren’t some perks that come with the increased scrutiny, like meeting Paul McCartney at the Super Bowl, thanks to Swift. He had to break his conversation with buddy Miles Teller for it to happen.

“I hear Taylor behind me, like, ‘Jason, turn around!’ I look around, Paul McCartney standing right there,” he said. “I’m like what the heck, there’s royalty in the office? Oh my god.”

The Kelces also explained how Ice Spice (“I was introduced to her as ‘Ice’,” Jason said) ended up in the suite. It’s not the rapper’s first tango with the Swift/Kelce phenomenon, as Swift introduced her onstage at Saturday Night Live during that fateful New York City date night lo those many months ago.

“They saw each other at the Grammys,” Travis said, referring to the awards ceremony where Swift scooped up her record-breaking fourth Album of the Year award while Travis stayed behind with the Chiefs to prep for the Super Bowl. “Ice said she’d be out there and I said we had to get her in the suite.”
