There is no better NFL quarterback to take advice from than Tom Brady. A select group of NFL rookies, led by Chicago Bears No. 1 draft pick Caleb Williams, had the opportunity to do so, but it meant they also had to hear some harsh truths from the 7-time Super Bowl champ.

Attendees included the top quarterbacks like Williams, the New England Patriots‘ Drake Maye and the Minnesota Vikings‘ J.J. McCarthy.

Brady’s advice to rookie quarterbacks

“The biggest problem I see with a lot of young players today: you guys are making it too much about ‘I’ and ‘me’ because of social media and branding and all that,” Brady said at the table of wide-eyed twenty-somethings.

“It’s fine. You’re not gonna win. There’s a difference between being a star and a champion.”

Brady also talked about preparation, dedication and hard work, traits he will apply to his new role as Fox’s lead NFL broadcaster this season.

“We talked about life and a little football,” the longtime New England Patriot wrote in an Instagram post afterward. “I’ll always cherish the opportunity to talk to these young men who are about to start a monumental chapter of their lives.”

NFL Rookies get “Dinner with Jay-Z”

It wasn’t just Brady, either. The breakfast was organized by Michael Rubin, the star maker and owner of Fanatics also responsible for the fabled annual “White Party.” He invited billionaire rapper and businessman Jay-Z along to also offer advice to the NFL’s future stars.

“Breakfast with Jay and Tom > $500k,” Rubin joked on TikTok, referencing the viral “Dinner with Jay-Z” debate.

Rubin isn’t in good graces with all of the rookies, however. Fanatics is reportedly taking Arizona Cardinals first round pick Marvin Harrison Jr. to court over a breach of his $1 million contract.
