Yellowstone fans were reeling at the end of the prequel 1923 when it was revealed Alex (played by Julia Schlaepfer) did not survive her exposure to the elements.
She lived long enough to deliver her son prematurely, but died in the arms of Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) in hospital following a brief reunion.
The series concluded with a narration from Elsa Dutton (Isabel May), who revealed Spencer never remarried, but had a second son with a nameless widow.
Ever since this information came to light, viewers have been trying to figure out who the widow might have been, with many believing it could be Jack Dutton’s (Darren Mann) widow Elizabeth (Michelle Randolph).

However, a new theory has come to light which suggests the widow could be related to an unexpected star of the original series.

Taking to Reddit, one fans believed the widow could be from Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) lineage.
Jahon_Dony had asked: “1883 girl mentions that Spencer gets with a widow and has another son. Does anybody know about this from OG Yellowstone or is it setting up a future story?
“Also, is the dead nephew’s wife still pregnant? What happens to that Dutton?”
ScatterTheReeds replied with: “OG Yellowstone’s Garret, biological father of Jamie says that Jamie’s birthright was taken from him.
“It’s never mentioned how it was taken. The connection of the Duttons to Jamie’s biological parents is never stated.
“Were they friends? Were they neighbors? Were they related? They never say. That’s why the widow line has to be about Jamie.”

On a separate Facebook group called ‘1923 Continue To 1944 Then Yellowstone’, Victoria Lin Wade penned: “In Elsa’s narration she mentioned Spencer had a second boy child with the widow he hooks up with after Alex dies. I wonder if that boy child is a relation to Jamie Dutton?”
While some fans have pointed out that Jamie was adopted and is not from Dutton descent, Lori Elder pointed out: “Doesn’t mean that the boy’s mother didn’t go off with him and something happened. He was adopted but John and Evelyn knew who his parents were.”
David Strickland added: “Taylor Sheridan has left the door open on this. Nothing in the Yellowstone universe thus far prevents this from being a possibility, but there is also nothing that confirms it.
“It is a fact that Jamie’s biological father told him he’d been cheated out of his birthright- what did he mean by this?
“I think Jamie’s biological mother might be a Dutton descendant, possibly related to Spencer’s son with the widow.
“There were probably many sad cases of children that needed to be adopted- why did John Dutton step up for Jamie in particular?”
