Courtney Love Under Fire for Taylor Swift Comments On Social Media
Love, 59, who rose to fame in the 1990s fronting the band Hole and was married to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain until his death by suicide in 1994, dubbed Swift as “not important.”
The singer also took aim at Madonna, with whom she has been feuding for decades, by saying: “I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me.”
Beyoncé and Lana Del Rey also didn’t escape Love’s critiques.
She claimed not to like Beyoncé’s new country album, Cowboy Carter, but said she was aware it was an important body of work because it was “about Black women going into spaces where previously only white women have been allowed.”
“As a concept, I love it,” Love said. “I just don’t like her music.” Love also suggested Del Rey “should really take seven years off,” adding she hasn’t liked the Coachella 2024 headliner’s music “since she covered a John Denver song.”
“Up until ‘Take Me Home Country Roads’ I thought she was great,” Love explained. “When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her as she was influencing me too much.”
Love explained she thought it was great more women were at the forefront of music, but she is worried too much of it is beginning to sound the same.
Regardless of her justifications, Swifties slammed Love on X, formerly Twitter.
“Tired of hearing what courtney love has to say,” wrote @jwnch0.
“Courtney Love came in here and said Taylor swift isn’t important, she doesn’t like Beyoncé music and Lana del Rey should take seven years off 💀
Now she getting dragged by multiple fandoms 😂😭,” added @Frankziln.
And @SandRepeat commented: “Mega star versus washed up nobody. Taylor Swift can fill stadiums, Courtney love can whinge.”
But others pointed out Love has long been known to openly share her opinions and thoughts on the entertainment industry at large.
“Imagine thinking Courtney Love cares what anyone thinks? She’s an incredible artist, absolutely crazy, and she has zero, and I do mean ZERO worries about current fandoms. None. I love Taylor, but I’m GenX chuckling about Courtney & the Swifties,” wrote @ashleadavis.
“Gen Z-ers only now discovering that Courtney Love is quite opinionated and doesn’t give a f*** about who they stan….” added @SheTheDee1971.
“Guys, I love Taylor the most, but ridiculous to call Courtney Love a nobody. She’s an icon. And to say she’s just a famous guy’s ex-wife is wrong and misogynistic. Give the Hole album Live Through This a listen. Pitchfork gave it a 10 for a reason. Masterpiece,” posted @ALittleGauche13.
