Alex Wolff Reveals Shocking Bond with Brother Nat and Billie Eilish: ‘We’re Connected by Tourette’s—She’s Truly One of Us!

The Nat & Alex Wolff singer said they don’t have to “mute ourselves” around each other

Alex Wolff says he, his combination brother-bandmate Nat and his tourmate Billie Eilish have all bonded over what it’s like to have Tourette Syndrome — and can just be themselves around each other.

Wolff, whose pop-rock duo Nat & Alex Wolff is currently opening for Eilish on her Hit Me Hard and Soft tour, told Variety. “Even when I saw Billie on interviews, I said, ‘Oh, she’s one of us.’ ”

“We know all the ways that we try to mute ourselves or try and chill ourselves out or soften ourselves for other people, and how nice it is to not have to do that for certain people,” Wolff, 26, noted to the outlet about how they try to downplay their Tourette’s symptoms.

Per the Mayo Clinic, Tourette Syndrome is “a disorder that involves repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that can’t be easily controlled. For instance, you might repeatedly blink your eyes, shrug your shoulders or blurt out unusual sounds or offensive words.”

Eilish, 22, joked about their bonding experience in an earlier video for Vogue, saying, “My first real impression of you, when I met you, was at the Oscars after party, and I was sitting on the couch outside, and you just appeared.”

“It was just like an immediate — I don’t even know what we talked about, but it was an immediate — I was like, ‘Yo!’ “ Eilish recalled to the outlet.

The singer, whose Barbie song, “What Was I Made For?” netted Eilish her second Academy Award. Meanwhile, Wolff was on hand to support the event’s Best Picture winner Oppenheimer, in which he played experimental physicist Luis Walter Alvarez.

“Yo!” Wolff repeated. “Like, ‘We got Tourette’s!’ ”

” ‘I love you,’ ” Eilish recalled Wolff saying to her. “ ‘And we got Tourette’s. And you know my brother.’ ”

“And then Nat was there, and then it was the three of us, and then a couple of my friends, and we just hung out all night,” Eilish said of the start of their friendship.

Wolff — who plays a young Leonard Cohen in the upcoming biogrgraphical series on the composer’s early life, So Long, Marianne — explained that his father Michael also has Tourette, saying, “It’s super cool to have, Billie’s got Tourette’s, and we’re, like, very hyper and I think I’ve always felt a little like too much.”

“And then I think I met you – and it was like, ‘Whoa,’ ” he said.

The feeling is mutual for Eilish, who added, “Your family is literally the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me.”
