Landon Knack reflects on his MLB debut and challenges faced at Dodger Stadium

Landon Knack’s MLB debut at Dodger Stadium was a mix between high expectations and harsh realities. The new right-hander for the Los Angeles Dodgers played against the Washington Nationals, facing the immense pressure that comes with stepping onto such a storied mound for the first time.
Knack’s debut didn’t begin as he might have dreamed. He conceded a leadoff home run to CJ Abrams from just his second pitch — an eye opener for the rookie and a reminder how tough the competition is in the Major Leagues.
During a post-game interview, Knack acknowledged his less-than-ideal start, highlighting his understanding of the importance of his new role.
“Obviously I would have liked a little better start than that.”
The 26-year-old, ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 13 prospect by MLB Pipeline, gave up another run in the first inning, putting his team behind 2-0 right away. Despite a rough start, the Tennessee native showed strength and a commendable ability to regain control when things got tough.
After the first inning, Knack found his rhythm, retiring 12 of the last 13 batters he faced, with the sole baserunner caught by a timely double play.
After the first inning, Landon Knacks recovery means good news for the young pitcher
This recovery was a crucial takeaway from Knack’s five-inning start, where he struck out four hitters, learning a lesson about adapting and overcoming the debut jitters.
“After that first inning, we got back to doing things as normal, and it felt good after that.” – Knack noted, expressing relief and a newfound comfort on the mound.
While the Los Angeles Dodgers offense failed to ignite, eventually losing 2-0 to the Washington Nationals, Knack’s ability to keep his performance steady comes as a good sign.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that Knack would stay in the rotation for at least one more start, an opportunity to give the young pitcher a chance to improve his technique and hopefully set the tone for future games.
