Why ‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Are Saying Colin Jost is Better Than Ken Jennings

Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Audiences got their first taste of Colin Jost as the host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!, and they seemingly want more.

Jost, 42, made his debut as the host of the Jeopardy! spin-off game show, which had a three-part premiere on Wednesday, December 4, and naturally, fans are comparing him to the host of the original show, Ken Jennings.

Some fans took to Reddit to share their thoughts on the hosts.

“Colin Jost was actually a great host—very Ken Jennings approach with the contestants with a formal yet informal way,” wrote one fan. A second added, “I’m enjoying him immensely, to be honest. I think Ken is really good too, but Colin is more telegenic and has a great sense of humor. Obviously has more star power than Ken too.” A third fan bluntly wrote, “I feel like Colin was very polished for a newbie, and definitely funnier than Ken.”

Colin Jost The divisive argument over which host is better drew the attention of fans who disagree with the notion that Jennings, 50, needs to be replaced. Fans also took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their arguments.

“Some people might say Pop Culture Jeopardy! is easier than regular Jeopardy!, but regular Jeopardy! contestants don’t have to pretend to laugh at Colin Jost’s jokes,” wrote one user. A second asked, “Did Colin Jost wanna do Pop Culture Jeopardy! or did they make him do it?”

A third user added, “I think Colin is doing too much and trying a bit too hard to be funny in the first few episodes, but I think he has a lot of potential as he gets more comfortable with the flow of the game.”

The debate comes after rumors that Jost was gunning for Jennings’ position as the host of the beloved game show. The former Saturday Night Live cast member responded to the claims in an interview with The Ringer published on Tuesday, December 3, and told the outlet, “I promise I am in no way trying to steal his job. He’s very good at his job. I also have a job.”

Pop Culture Jeopardy! is 40 episodes long and set to be released in batches of three every Wednesday. The first three episodes are available for streaming on Prime Video.
