The USA gymnastics team is back in action today at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, just after having secured gold in the team competition. While Simone Biles was the star of the show last time out, she will in fact not be competing on Sunday, August 4, in the uneven bars final.
Impressing everyone with some jaw-dropping performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Biles has already won her first gold medal in the team competition with the USA team, scoring a total of 171.296 points across all four apparatuses. Italy took the silver with 165.494 points, and Brazilian Rebeca Andrade finished third with 164.497 points.

Following this first Olympic gold in the team event, the American continued to build her legacy by winning her second gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the individual artistic gymnastics final. She secured the win with a score of 59.131 points, a 1.199-point lead over Rebeca Andrade (57.932), who was the silver medalist again, just as in Tokyo 2020. The bronze went to fellow American Sunisa Lee, the Tokyo champion, with 54.465 points.
Why is Sunisa Lee the only American competing today?
Team USA is pursuing another gymnastics gold today, in the uneven bars final, with all hopes placed on Suni Lee to bring back the medal.
After the qualifiers, Lee is in third place with a score of 14.866, behind Kaylia Nemour in first and Qiu Qiyuan in second.
The reason why Simone Biles will not be there is because, although she did take part in the uneven bars during the individual all-around final, she failed to qualify by the slimmest of margins: just a tenth of a point.
That resulted in a ninth place finish, ruling her out of today’s final, unless Sunisa Lee were to suffer an injury, whereby Biles would step in as first reserve.
