WATCH: Padres’ Jackson Profar and Mike Shildt ejected from the Blue Jays game for arguing a strike three call
After the same inning, the Padres got hit with a tough blow. Jurickson Profar got called out on strike by the umpire, Ramon De Jesus leaving the franchise without any scores.
Profar was angry about being called out and showed it by slamming his bat and then his helmet on the ground in frustration. The umpire, De Jesus, found it disrespectful and kicked Profar out of the game.
San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt came to argue with the umpire about the ejection. Shortly after, De Jesus ejected Shildt out of the game to mark his first being the Padres manager.
When the game started, Jurickson Profar, who Jose Azocar replaced, was hitting .296, 21 hits, 13 RBI and 2 home runs.
Blue Jays’ Jose Berrios pitched six innings without allowing any runs while giving up six hits and striking out six batters. He now has a record of 4 wins and 0 losses with an impressive 0.85 ERA.
The Toronto Blue Jays are 12-9 and have won six of their last seven games. On the other hand, the San Diego Padres, who only managed to score four runs in the last three games, have fallen to an 11-12 record.
Randy Vasquez recorded his first loss in season debut against the Padres
On Saturday, the San Diego Padres’ top prospect, Randy Vasquez, recorded his first loss of the 2024 season.
After being brought up to play in his debut game of the season, he allowed four runs with one earned on five hits and one walk while pitching for five innings.
“I thought he threw the ball well. His stuff’s really good. This guy’s got a great arm and his secondary pitches are good,” Mike Shildt said about Vasquez (via MLB.com). “It’s a matter of consistently controlling counts. If he does that, he’s going to pitch in this league for a long time.”
Vasquez is expected to continue in the starting rotation with Yu Darvish injured until May 2. Darvish was placed on 15-day IL by the San Diego Padres due to neck tightness.
