Viewers Disappointed as New Playoff Advisor Joins Snoop Dogg’s Team on ‘The Voice’
After complaining about Machine Gun Kelly being picked as a Playoff Advisor on “The Voice,” netizens are now disputing the star selected for the same role on a different team.
On November 21, “The Voice” took to Instagram and Facebook to share posts announcing the celebrity who will be coming on board as a Playoff Advisor for Team Snoop Dogg. However, netizens are not looking forward to the episode, as they are questioning why the star was chosen for the role, which she recently spoke about.
“Talent, poise and 11 Olympic gold medals! 🥇 Welcome Simone Biles to #TheVoice as Team Snoop’s Playoff Advisor MONDAY 8/7c on @nbc,” revealed the singing competition show in their caption alongside a photo of the superstar gymnast smiling.
Online viewers wasted no time in taking to the comment sections to air their frustrations with Snoop Dogg’s choice. “What a pointless guest. This is literally gonna be a meet n [sic] greet episode…” remarked an Instagrammer.
Another vehement netizen opined, “Biles is as irrelevant to this show as she was to the Country Music Awards the other day and she will probably do the Heavy Metal Kerrang awards if the money is right. Desperately trying to re-invent herself as the Gymnastics career is starting to come to an end 🇺🇸 [sic].”
“Simone has zero music experience. I feel bad for the contestants,” noted a critic, while another echoed, “Huh, I thought it was called ‘the voice.’ Simone has no singing experience to being to the table. This makes zero sense [sic].”
Someone else urged, “Stick to gymnastics.. leave the singing or actual singers to judge [sic].” “So this must mean Snoop is going to the the next Coach of Team USA gymnastics [sic],” added an Instagrammer.
Although some people complimented Biles, they still disagreed with her role as a Playoff Advisor. “Odd choice. She is an Insanely talented and amazing woman, but this isnt her arena [sic]. If I were a contestant, I’m not sure I’d want her advice based solely on the fact that I’m trying to win a singing competition, not compete in the Olympics,” penned a Facebooker.
Similarly, a spectator commented, “I love her […] but I’m baffled?” Others continued to criticize Biles, with a netizen writing, “Seriously? Ugh! My favorite show and she is going to ruin it.” “These choices are getting ridiculous. She is an athlete not a singer/performer,” stated someone else.
An observer chimed in with, “She brings absolutely NOTHING to the table. Not sure why he would ever pick her. Unless someone develops a case of the twisties, the show is better off without her,” while another wrote, “What. She is unqualified as music coach [sic].”
Although most netizens were anything but receptive to the news, some reacted positively, defending Biles against the backlash she received.
“This totally makes sense when you realize that these people can already SING and what they need is training on stage presence, confidence, and performance, which she’s an expert in,” explained a fan.
Agreeing, a fellow admirer reasoned, “She’s the PLAYOFF ADVISOR Y’all! She has better advice about dealing with nerves and high pressure situations than anyone. It doesn’t matter if she’s a singer [sic].”
An Instagrammer further defended, “People not realizing that Simone can actually give great advice on performance, routine, stage presence, and confidence. It’s not just about ‘the voice.’ They can already sing they don’t need advice on that… trust me, I would know, as a performer from the show.”
“Because they don’t need vocal lessons… all the ones who are left can sing. What they need is confidence and belief in themselves. That’s what she brings to the table,” highlighted a fan.
Another said, “I don’t hate this at all. Biles is a multiple gold medal olympic champion. A true winner. Although she may not have pro musical experience, she definitely has tip top performance experience. I may not agree with her other choices in life but I would definitely take advice on performance and training [sic].”
“I think she will do great. She understands how to perform under pressure. Snoop has the singing part down and she will tell them how to have confidence in themselves. Great pick,” praised an admirer.
Biles and Snoop recently spoke to AP News about their collaboration after the duo finished filming the upcoming episode in Los Angeles. “We were able to riff off each other and give the artists the best insight going into the next round. It was pretty easy, simple,” shared the Olympic gold medalist.
Biles, who forged a bond with the iconic rapper at the Paris Olympic Games, went on to describe her and Snoop as “mellow” individuals.
However, she clarified that they can also liven up their energy when necessary before adding, “For us, it was about instilling confidence going into the next week.”
“These are the learning steps: Learn, process, go back in and work. They all have the vocal talent. It’s about harnessing that, knowing when to bring it out and which songs to sing and which genre you fit in,” divulged Biles concerning her role in mentoring the five remaining contestants on Snoop’s team.
She also highlighted the importance of the contestants knowing what they want their legacies to be. Stepping in to address his and Biles’ collaboration despite their vastly different careers, the “Beautiful” artist disclosed, “We have such diverse careers. But the things that we dealt with, they’re dealing with now.”
He continued, “We have the best experience and knowledge to give these performers. She’s a performer. I’m a performer. We’ve performed under extreme conditions. We always do our best. But sometimes things happen behind closed doors that you don’t know about. So, we’re able to speak to those things and give them real reassurance.”
During the rest of the interview, the duo went on to showcase their love and respect for one another, with Snoop Dogg dubbing Simone Biles “family.”
The critical comments Biles received concerning her role as a Playoff Advisor echo the strong reactions famous artist Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) garnered after the show announced that he would be music icon Gwen Stefani’s Playoff Advisor.
“My noise is Boo! [sic] Why didn’t you pick a real musician??” questioned an Instagrammer, while another echoed, “Why?? Couldn’t find someone with actual musical talent?”
A netizen who couldn’t believe that Machine Gun Kelly had been chosen expressed, “This has to be a joke right?” “So glad I am not watching this season,” remarked a Facebooker.
Another penned, “Wth?????? Why???? He’s not worthy of being in the show let alone being am advisor. I just can’t. I will skip these episodes with him. Ugh. Despicable choice. ‘Voice’ do better [sic].”
Critical comments continued, with yet another disappointed viewer noting, “Skipping that episode.” Someone else brought Stefani into the mix, commenting, “Seriously? I just lost a little respect for Gwen.”
However, some viewers looked forward to seeing MGK on their screens. “The only reason I’m watching ‘the voice’ is because mgk is on it [sic],” divulged a fan. Another swooned, “Ughhhhh loveeeee him 😭[…] ✨[sic],” while a fellow admirer gushed, “Best decision 👏🏻👏🏻🔥.”
