Sparks Rookie Cameron Brink Admits Her Big Problem In WNBA

Cameron Brink had a career night on Sunday against the Dallas Wings. However, the Los Angeles Sparks rookie couldn’t help but point out her shortcomings in the game.

Brink finished with a career-high 21 points along with three blocks. She actually started off hot, dropping 12 points and two blocks in the first quarter, joining Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson as the only players ever to have 12-plus points and two-plus blocks in the first quarter of a game.

Despite her efforts, though, the Sparks lost to the Wings 84-83. It didn’t help that Brink faced foul trouble after committing two in the first quarter. She recorded five fouls on the night, which hindered her production after an epic start.

Speaking to reporters postgame, Brink admitted that she’s still adjusting to the physicality of the WNBA. The 22-year-old also highlighted the needs for her to be mature and control her emotions better in order to avoid foul trouble.

“I think it’s just something I need to continue to adjust with. The coaches and my teammates have given me grace, so I’m just going to work through it,” the no. 2 overall pick of the 2024 WNBA Draft said of her performance.

“Obviously I think there were a lot of fouls that didn’t go our way. There was one play where I was just completely tackled, like blindsided out of nowhere. And so that led to a frustration foul on my end. So that’s where maturity comes in, where I need to get better. But that means a lot that he [Coach Curt Miller] trusts me and I’ll just continue to show him that he can continue to trust me.”

Cameron Brink has struggled with foul troubles for the most part of her career. Remember, Brink fouled out in Stanford’s Sweet 16 loss to NC State during the 2024 NCAA Tournament.

It’s definitely an issue that Brink needs to resolve, but the good thing is she’s still a rookie and has plenty of time to learn. Now that she’s a pro as well and her focus is working on her game, she should be able to take the next step in her development.

Brink understands what she needs to do, and that’s the important thing right now as the Sparks look to make her a key piece of the franchise.
