Amazon reveals truth behind ‘price label change’ after Trump press sec Karoline Leavitt slammed Bezos for ‘hostile’ act
AMAZON has hit back at claims it will add a new label to its products after being blasted by President Donald Trump’s press secretary.
The retail giant was forced to clarify its strategy after Karoline Leavitt slammed the company for what she called a “hostile” act.

“The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store considered the idea of listing import charges on certain products,” Amazon spokesperson Tim Doyle told The U.S. Sun.
“This was never approved and is not going to happen.”
The online retailer was said to be preparing to display how much Trump’s tariffs are adding to the price of each of its products on its website, according to Punchbowl News on Tuesday.
However, Amazon quickly fired off a statement saying it wasn’t happening.
Before the clarification, Leavitt bashed the potential move at a press briefing with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to celebrate the president’s first 100 days in office on Tuesday.
“This is a hostile and political act by Amazon,” Leavitt told reporters, saying that Trump disapproved of the idea.
“Why didn’t Amazon do this when the Biden administration hiked inflation to the highest level in 40 years?” she asked.
“It’s not a surprise because, as Reuters recently wrote, Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm,” she continued, holding up a picture of Bezos in a 2021 article by Reuters.
The report Leavitt referenced was when Amazon came under fire for marketing a collection of speeches by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2019.
At the time, Amazon partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm to create a portal where shoppers couldn’t see ratings and comments on books.
“So this is another reason why Americans should buy American,” Leavitt continued.
She also said the potential move showed anti-Trump sentiment because it wasn’t done when former President Joe Biden put tariffs in place.
When questioned about Trump’s relationship with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Leavitt declined to comment.
“I will not speak to the president’s relationships with Jeff Bezos, but I will tell you that this is certainly a hostile and political action by Amazon,” she said.
