Tyreek Hill exuded confidence in an interview with sports media personality Kay Adams, claiming that he’s better than Patrick Mahomes and could beat Noah Lyles in a race

For four years, emergent young talents Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes partnered to form the NFL’s newest dynasty in Kansas City, eclipsing 12 wins each season and winning the 2020 Super Bowl.

But after submitting a 2022 trade request, Hill became the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history after parting ways with Mahomes and joining the Miami Dolphins. In a conversation with sports commentator Kay Adams on Monday, he claims that this diminutive frame and continued statistical excellence now make him a better player than his former quarterback.

“Yea, for sure, I’m him,” Hill told Adams when asked who the better player was. “My argument is that — you have to look at it like this — Pat is great for his team. They won two back-to-back Super Bowls, they did their thing. You look at me, two back-to-back 1,700 [yard seasons], Pro Bowl, All-Pro, this consistency, all that man. And I’m doing this at 5’8, about 190 [pounds]. A lot of people said I couldn’t be a receiver and here I am doing this. I’m giving all the short kings out there hope.”

Hill’s preseason confidence is certainly justified after a historic 2023 campaign, finishing seventh all-time in receiving yards and voted second for the AP’s Offensive Player of the Year Award. It’s a transcendent trajectory Hill began forging in his rookie season, earning Pro Bowl honors in his first year with Kansas City.

Mahomes joined the Chiefs roster the following season, and once the Texas Tech quarterback took command of the offense in 2018, Hill returned to All-Pro status with a remarkable 1,479 season. He and star tight end Travis Kelce combined with Mahomes to form one of the NFL’s premier offenses in the coming years, and despite submitting a trade request, Hill has claimed that this was simply a ploy for a new contract, adding: “The idea was to never leave KC.”

Despite the unintended move to South Florida, Hill’s time with the Dolphins has transformed him into the unquestioned No. 1 option and boosted his production even further. The FCS product has eclipsed 1,700 yards in each of the past two seasons, becoming the only NFL player to do so, also beginning to earn consideration for MVP and OPOTY awards.

While Hill is officially listed as 5’10, Hill labeled himself as 5’8 or even 5’7, which would make him among the shortest active players in the NFL. The former track star has overcome this slight stature with his nearly incomparable speed, reaching 22.05 miles per hour against the Giants in Week 5, good for the third-fastest time of any ball carrier last season per FOX Sports.

Hill continued his blustering interview with Adams with another bold proclamation, that he would beat American track star Noah Lyles in a race, continuing antagonism from NFL and NBA players after the gold-medalist criticized these athletes for calling themselves world champions. Lyles recently won the 100m in Paris before taking the bronze medal in the 200m, claiming he tested positive before the latter race.

“Noah Lyles can’t say nothing after what just happened to him. He wants to come out and pretend that he’s sick… Just speak to what you know about, and that’s track. I would beat Noah Lyles. When I beat him, I’ll put on a COVID mask and let him know I mean business.”
