Travis Kelce responds to Andy Reid's message to Marquise Brown and raises some questions

Travis Kelce‘s messages he sent to the Kansas City Chiefs‘ head coach, Andy Reid after the NFL champions signed Marquise Brown, wide receiver, on a one-year contract shows how instantly he has been welcomed by the Chiefs Nation.

Kelce welcomed the player, who joined on a seven million dollar contract after departing from the Arizona Cardinals shortly after he left the Baltimore Ravens, where he was drafted in 2019.

He could be the answer to the Chiefs‘ receiver problems as Patrick Mahomes lacked offensive options in the latter part of the NFL season, despite managing to get the franchise to Super Bowl LVIII glory. After their bye week, the only reliable receiver he had was Rashee Rice but this could change the game and Kelce knows it.

Speaking to the New Heights podcast, which he runs along with his now ex-NFL brother Jason, the Chiefs‘ tight end revealed the text exchanges between Brown and Reid as they agreed on the deal.

Reid wrote, “Hollywood [Brown], think Red today, KC Red with diamonds!!!”

To which Brown replied, “Yessir Love the sound of that. Think Hollywood Brown, Lights, Camera, Action.”

But Jason Kelce, who won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots, was particularly focused on the amount of personality and color the 66-year-old Reid used as he deployed a lot of emojis.

He was also particularly struck by Reid‘s obsession with diamonds, which Kelce later cleared up by saying his head coach is obsessed with the carbon-based gemstones.

“This is impressive by Big Red,” Jason Kelce said on the podcast. “First of all, I didn’t know people talked to each other like this. But I think this is impressive by the Big Man.

“I didn’t know Andy was such a diamonds guy. He’s a big diamonds guy.”

To Travis Kelce, this is no new thing and he revealed the Super Bowl-winning head coach has loved them for at least the last five years, before they both laughed at his emoji use.

Marquise Brown’s NFL stats

In 2023, with the CardinalsBrown posted 51 receptions for 574 yards and four touchdowns with an average of 11 yards-per-carry and no fumbles as he fell out of favor in the pecking order in Arizona.

But his overall career is a promising outlook and there’s clearly a player in there for the Chiefs as he has made 313 receptions from 525 targets (59%) for 3644 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Across his career he has only fumbled the ball on four occasions for a rate of 78 successful receptions per fumble, meaning he is a very reliable receiver.
