The Voice’s Tom Nitti May Not Be Quite as Done With the Show as We Thought
Tom Nitti made headlines when he dropped out of Season 24 of The Voice for “personal reasons” just before the Live Shows, but the former contestant hasn’t completely cut ties with the show. Keep reading to find out where Tom Nitti is now and what he’s been up to since leaving The Voice.
Nitti is a 31-year-old New York State Trooper and military veteran. While he was deployed in Afghanistan, he suffered a serious brain injury and was awarded the Purple Heart medal for his honorable service. He competed on Season 24 of The Voice and earned a spot on Team Reba during the Blind Auditions for his talent as a country singer. Nitti continued to impress the coaches and advanced through the Battle Rounds and the Knockouts. However, during the Playoff Rounds, Nitti was noticeably absent. McEntire briefly explained on the show that the singer had to leave for “personal reasons,” but did not give any further explanation. The following morning, Nitti took to Instagram to offer some insight into his departure. In an emotional, lengthy post, he explained that he left the show to spend more time with his family.
“Well, I’ve been dreading this day ever since the blind audition so here goes nothin’,” he wrote alongside a montage of photos of his kids. “First and foremost I’m blessed beyond belief and I can’t say enough how much I love and appreciate the constant support from my fans, my friends and my family…As much as it absolutely stings to say, I had to make probably one of the hardest yet easiest decisions ever and ultimately at the end of the day, my kids will always come first and if I had to make the same decision again I’d do it over and over.”
In an interview with the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Nitti elaborated on the circumstances in his personal life that led to him quitting The Voice. He revealed that during his time on the show, his now ex-wife decided to try and pursue full custody of their two children. “It’s always been a dream of mine to pursue music full-time, but I can’t do that without a cushion,” he said. “As a dad, I need to make sure my children will be supported.”
His former coach, McEntire, told Entertainment Tonight that she was supportive of his decision to leave. “I know its not an easy decision to make,” she told the outlet. “He did the right thing. Career will be there, because he is that good and I firmly believe in him. Those kids come first, they always come first.”
Although Nitti’s time on The Voice came to an end, the country artist is still making music and collaborating with fellow contestants from Season 24. On Dec. 4, he shared his latest song on Instagram, revealing that he had finished the track, titled “One Night Stand,” while working with fellow contestants BIAS and Lennon VanderDoes. “Wrote this tune in 2021 finished it this summer 2023 in California with some great friends @officiallybias and @lennonvmusic it’s called One Night Stand,” he wrote alongside a video of him performing it at a local venue.
BIAS was a contestant on Team Gwen and was eliminated during semifinals. VanderDoes was a contestant on Team Niall and was eliminated twice: first during the Knockout Rounds by his coach Niall Horan, and then by coach Gwen Stefani after she used her Super Save to bring him back during the Playoff Rounds.
Nitti also shared a video of himself singing the song with Bias and VanderDoes in what appears to be a hotel room back during their time together on The Voice. “Here’s another version of One Night Stand with three piece harmonies! Absolutely love this jam,” he captioned the post.
Fans loved seeing the three artists collaborating together and praised the trio in the comments section. “The three of you should definitely make a record of this. I dont normally like country but the three of you guys’ voices blends so well together. ❤️,” one fan wrote. “Country boy band?? make it happen??” a second commented.
