Tom Cruise Confirmed Sequel to Movie With 38% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Coming
Tom Cruise has had a lot of success with sequels over the years, so we’ll see if he can work his magic with another Days of Thunder.
Released in 1990, the NASCAR-themed flick starred Cruise as racecar driver Cole Trickle and also featured Robert Duvall, Nicole Kidman, John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker, Don Simpson and Cary Elwes. The movie didn’t exactly set the world on fire at the time, grossing $157 million globally, and even now it has only a 38% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

That’s not stopping Cruise from making Days of Thunder 2, though. In a new interview, racing legend Jeff Gordon, who is friends with the three-time Golden Globe winner, confirmed that Cruise told him the sequel is a go.
“I mean, all I can say is … I’ve known Tom [Cruise] for many years, and was on set this past year for Mission: Impossible, and then I went to the premiere. And the first word out of his mouth is, ‘We’re doing it. We’re doing Days of Thunder 2,'” Gordon said, via Road and Track.
Whatever the viewing public may have thought of the original, Gordon made clear he wants to help with the follow-up.
“I’m all for it. Rick Hendrick is all for it,” Gordon said. “Hendrick Motorsports played a big role in the first Days of Thunder, and we’d love to do the same in this one.”
Cruise himself has made reference to a Days of Thunder 2 recently. In an interview last month, the 62-year-old Hollywood star shared some of the projects he is working on and confirmed the racing sequel was in the works.
“Yeah, we’re thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what’s possible,” Cruise told Today Show Australia. “It took me 35 years to figure out ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, so all of these things we’re working on, we’re discussing ‘Days of Thunder’ and ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’”
