Former New England Patriots tight end Christian Fauria has jokingly brandished Tom Brady as a ‘liar’ after he recently revealed he regrets how he handled himself in the NFL.

Brady had been on ‘The Pivot’ podcast when he was asked about his game and how different it is to that of Patrick Mahomes’, with the legendary quarterback stating that he wished he played the game more like the Kansas City Chiefs star.

He said: “What I would have changed was, ‘OK, there’s part of me that still loves … You see these young players. I see, like, Patrick [Mahomes] out there at quarterback, laughing, having fun. I’m like, ‘I used to be like that!’ What the hell happened to me? I just got too serious.”

But Fauria finds that tough to believe. The former pass-catcher spent four years playing with Brady, grabbing 13 touchdowns from him while winning two Super Bowls together.

And when hearing Brady state he wishes he played like Mahomes, he told his radio show: “I think Brady is a liar. When I heard it, I was like, ‘Who’s he kidding? He can’t change. He can’t downshift. ‘This is not who he is. He’s not wired like Mahomes.”

“I’ve seen him have a great time; I’ve heard him laugh and joke around,” Fauria continued. “But when it came to the game, you could see it during certain passes, or where he won a game or got a first down. He’s extremely happy, he’s celebrating like a little kid, but the reality is he is just wired so differently than Mahomes. Everything about him is different.”

A 13-year professional, Fauria played in the NFL from 1995 to 2007 with the best times of his career coming with the Patriots from 2002-05 – starting in their two Super Bowl wins.

It’s not just Brady’s attitude to the sport that differs to that of Mahomes, but their style of play, too. The Chiefs quarterback has three Super Bowl’s to his record, doing so with an explosive offense that consistently looks to make big plays down the field – rather than long-drives which fans had been used to seeing from Brady’s offense.

Nevertheless, the two continued to be compared to each other with them dominating their era’s in their own right, with Mahomes hoping to achieve something Brady could not this season in winning a third consecutive championship.
