Tim Meadows Says He Wants Travis Kelce to Host SNL Again: ‘I Think He’s Really Funny’ (Exclusive)
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE at Samsung 837 in New York City earlier this week, where he was joined by fellow SNL veteran Molly Shannon, the actor and comedian, 63, revealed that he would love to see Kelce, 34, return to Studio 8H sometime in the near future.
“He hosted once, and he did a great job. He was really funny,” Meadows said. “I like him a lot. I think he’s really funny.””It’s like, those athletes, they come in, and you are surprised how good they can be,” the Mean Girls star added.Kelce hosted SNL for the first time back in March 2023. At the time, he was joined by Kelsea Ballerini as the musical guest.
During his opening monologue, which featured numerous cutaways to his family — including older brother Jason Kelce and their parents, Donna and Ed Kelce — the Kansas City Chiefs tight end celebrated his 2023 Super Bowl win.
Another memorable moment saw Kelce perform in a parody of Netflix’s Too Hot to Handle.According to Meadows, Kelce reached out to him before his hosting gig, given that he was set to portray a character in a sketch similar to Meadows’ iconic SNL character, Leon Phelps, and was looking for advice.
“We sort of touched base with each other on Instagram,” Meadows told PEOPLE of himself and the NFL star. “Because he was doing … a lady’s man impression on Live.”
As for Shannon, 59, she couldn’t help but gush over the geographical connection shared between herself and Kelce. “Travis is a Cleveland guy. Like me, I’m from Cleveland,” she said. “I’m from Shaker Heights and … he’s from Cleveland Heights.”
Saturday Night Live airs weekends on NBC.
