The Voice fans slammed trio performance with ‘creepy backup dancers’ during semi-finals round

The Voice fans were left confused by “creepy masked backup dancers” as they coined Nathan Chester, Bryan Olesen, and Maddi Jane’s trio performance “a mess.”

During the live semi-final performance round of season 25, fans were left cringing after a bizarre performance from Dan + Shay’s team as the the singing group took the stage to sing The Cure’s hit song Just Like Heaven. And while fans slammed the song choice, they were also left puzzled by the circus-themed performance as a whole taking notice of panda on the drums, raccoon on base, and zebra on the keyboard.

After the strange performance, fans took to X, formerly Twitter, sharing their thoughts on the choice in song and animal costumes. One viewer wrote: “I can do without this especially the creepy masked backup dancers.” And another added: “Are there furrys on stage what is happening right now I’m so confused.” And a third wrote: “Furries on #TheVoice . Thought I’d seen it all.”

While critics bashed the odd choice in outfits, many were also fuming over the song choice as they believed the strong group of singers should’ve had a track that suited their vocal range. One fan wrote: “Nathan , Maddi & Bryan got the worse trio song .. IT DIDNT EVEN SHOW THEIR VOCAL ABILITY… this seems like sabotage. whoever chose the song need to be fired immediately.” And another wrote: “No bc what WAS that!!!! They’re all so talented and that was a mess!!” And a third added: “It was something. I’m mad as hell for them.”

This performance marked an important milestone in the singing competition as viewers at home are taking their picks on who they want to see move on in the competition. Now that The Voice has moved onto the final rounds, voting for who stays and who is sent home is entirely up to viewers at home instead of the star-studded coaches including Dan + Shay, Reba McEntire, Chance The Rapper, John Legend, and Blake Shelton.

And as the competition nears it’s final decisions, country star Dan Smyers from Team Dan + Shay spoke about how difficult it is to see to watch some of the aspiring singers be forced to pack their bags. As a new judge, Dan told Entertainment Tonight: “We feel really, really strong about our team, but seeing people go home is heartbreaking,” and added: “Honestly, that is something that we weren’t prepared for when we signed up for this show.”
