Taylor Swift’s electrifying performances continue to make seismic waves, quite literally!

A recent study conducted by researchers from Caltech and UCLA revealed

that the sheer enthusiasm of Swifties during Taylor Swift’s August 2023 show at

SoFi Stadium caused seismic activity.

This phenomenon, dubbed the ‘Swift Quake’, mirrored similar seismic activity observed during her July tour stop at Seattle’s Lumen Field last year, equating to the energy of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.

Published in a report titled ‘Shake to the Beat: Exploring the Seismic Signals and Stadium Response of Concerts and Music Fans’, the study highlighted how the audience’s movements, rather than the music itself, generated distinct harmonic tremors. Motion sensors installed more than five-and-a-half miles from SoFi Stadium captured data analyzed through graphs tracking wavelength frequencies. Hits like ‘Shake It Off’ and ‘Love Story’ had the biggest impact, according to the study’s fancy term “harmonic tremors.”

This phenomenon wasn’t unique to Taylor’s concerts, though. The researchers compared them to shows by Beyoncé, Metallica, and others at the same venue.

Speaking of enthusiasm, her Eras Tour is still going strong. After smashing records in North America last year, she’s already played in Japan, Australia, and Singapore this year, and Europe is next! To celebrate her upcoming album release in April, she’ll pick things back up in late May with European and UK shows throughout the summer and some North American dates in the fall.
