Every NBA season, players hone their offensive abilities. At the moment, four players in the league average more than thirty points each game, and the remaining players are only a few decimals short of that total.

There’s no doubting that the players’ skill level has improved over time, even though the narrative may claim that the league has turned into a pro-offense environment. The big guys are now equipped with deadly mid-range and 3-point shooting, but they were once known for their ability to muscle the defense under the basket and slam.

Here is the list of the top 10 players who have led the league in points this season thus far, despite players’ increasing offensive prowess.

Top NBA players this season with the most points overall

The top ten are as follows:

#10 LeBron James with 408 points

It doesn’t even appear as though LeBron James will turn 39 in December. This season, he’s been really successful. He’s making more drives to the basket, and he’s more efficient than ever in a number of areas.

In 16 games this season, James has 408 points. In a game, the veteran player, 21, is averaging 25.5 points, 8 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.

Despite having a terrible game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he shot 8 of 23 from the field and 1 of 9 from three, he is shooting 55.9 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc.

As he approaches the 40,000 point threshold this season at 38, the four-time champion is performing at a high level.

#9 Maxey Tyrese: 422 points

This season, Maxey has been the biggest (non-surprise). Following the James Harden trade, he saved the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers needed someone with his scoring ability more than Joel Embiid, and he has delivered.

This season, the young talent has scored 50 points and mostly relieved Embiid of the burden of scoring. In 16 games, he has averaged 26.4 points, 6.8 assists, and 4.9 rebounds.

Maxey may determine how far Philadelphia advances in the postseason. He was a key component of the 76ers’ 8-0 run this season.

#8 Jayson Tatum 444pts

Tatum has made a name for himself in the league as one of the best players. At barely 25, the young Celtic has accomplished something that most players never can in their whole career.

Tatum isn’t afraid to say that he is among the world’s greatest players.

“I’m … humbly, one of the best basketball players in the world,” Tatum stated to ESPN.

The forward for the Celtics is averaging 27.8 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists through 16 games this season.

Tatum’s effectiveness would only increase given that the Celtics now have two of the top big men in the game in Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, among the best defenders in the league.

Because of Tatum’s play, they are not only the favorites to win the East, but the entire season.

#7 445 points for  Giannis Antetokunmpo

Giannis Antetokunmpo is without a doubt the quintessential huge, dominating man of the 1980s and 1990s. Not only does he excel on the court, but the majority of the league believes he is the finest player in the world.

Against any team, Giannis is a very good scorer and defender. It’s nearly impossible to stop him in full-court transition because of his ability to run the entire court. Although his mid-range, 3-point, and free throw shooting are still developing, his scoring efficiency hasn’t decreased.

In 15 games this season, he has averaged 29.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

The Bucks were an instant favorite after acquiring Damian Lillard in the trade, but they haven’t fully utilized their particular talents. But given the type of games they play, Giannis and the Bucks should be able to figure it out soon enough.

#6 Stephen Curry 446 points

Stephen Curry’s talent hasn’t been diminished by the Golden State Warriors’ lack of identity this season. With an 8-9 record, the Dubs are eighth in the Western Conference.

The bright side is that they have Chris Paul, whose playmaking can bolster the second units. Curry, who is 35 years old, has not shown any symptoms of slowing down, which might help the Warriors.

In 15 games this season, Curry has averaged 29.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. The four-time winner is hitting 42.8 percent of his shots.

#5 Nikola Jokic has 451 points.

Once again, Nikola Jokic has played and looked like a huge guy despite social expectations. On the Denver Nuggets, the reigning champs, he is the most vital player. The 2022–23 Finals MVP is leading the Nuggets’ attack and continuing his amazing season.

Unlike other big players, Jokic is not athletic, he doesn’t flaunt himself, and he doesn’t shatter basketball rims. He is an expert at motivating players around him and has the best play reading skills in the league.

Jokic is the only star on the Nuggets; without him, they would not have defeated the LeBron James-led Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

With 16 games played this season, Jokic has averaged 28.2 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 8.9 assists, making him the clear favorite to win MVP once more.

#4 456 points for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

It is undeniable that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a skilled all-around player. He is a proficient scorer and a top-tier defensive player. He scored forty points, dished out twelve assists, and grabbed three rebounds on Nov. 23.

The Oklahoma City Thunder went where he led them when they had only SGA in the previous season. But because to SGA, rookie Chet Holmgren, and coach Mark Daigneault, the tale has turned around for OKC. With an 11-5 record, they are ranked second in the Western Conference.

In 15 games this season, SGA is averaging 30.4 points, 6.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds. With him and Holmgren in the lineup, OKC is anticipated to advance significantly this coming season.

#3 Kevin Durant has 471 points

Being among the top scorers of the season is evidence that Kevin Durant is one of the greatest scorers to have set foot on a basketball court.

For the majority of the season, the Phoenix Suns have been without two of its top players in Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but Durant has kept them afloat with his play at an outstanding level.

Nine times, he has scored thirty points or more. KD has demonstrated his exceptional scoring abilities in his last five games, averaging 34.2 points per contest.

In 15 games this season, Durant is averaging 31.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. At 53.3 percent, he is now ranked second in terms of points scored per game.

#2 Joel Embiid 482 points

Joel Embiid would make the scoring list complete. He’s among the finest of his generation and the best player on one of the league’s best clubs. The fact that Embiid has not yet won a championship is the sole mark against his resume.

But given how the Philadelphia 76ers are performing this year, it might not be unreasonable to anticipate that they will take home the championship. Maxey and Embiid are enjoying an incredible season. It’s very likely that they will have a better season under new coach Nick Nurse.

Embiid leads Durant and Doncic in the standings for points scored per game. In 15 games this season, he has averaged 32.1 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists.

#1 with 488 points, Luka Doncic

There was a lot of doubt about Kyrie Irving’s rapport with Luka Doncic following his signing with the Dallas Mavericks. But Jason Kidd seems to have found his groove this season, and the Mavericks are among the league’s top teams.

Doncic is a top-tier playmaker in the league who consistently scores career-high points. With Doncic, it wouldn’t be shocking if the Mavericks upset major clubs, even though they aren’t the favorites to win the West.

With 16 games played this season, Donic is averaging 30.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 7.8 assists. Luka Magic’s masterpiece has helped the Mavericks climb to fourth place in the West.
