Snoop Dogg presses the Coach Replay button, one contestant wows all four judges

A new crop of musical hopefuls made their way to The Voice stage for Part 2 of Blind Auditions, hoping for a red-chair turn from coaches Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Snoop Dogg or Michael Bublé.

Monday’s episode introduced an interesting mix of singers, all vying for a coveted spot on one of the coach’s teams. The contestants ranged from the season’s oldest competitor to the first musical trio of the cycle. The episode also featured a heartwarming moment when Stefani joined hopeful Crystalla Gonzalez, who didn’t survive past the Blind Auditions, for a duet of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.”

With the newly introduced Coach Replay button in play, the competitive energy was palpable as McEntire, Stefani, Snoop and Bublé continued to assemble their Voice teams — and do anything in their power to gain the upper hand.

With the Blind Auditions in full swing, find out which singers grabbed the coaches’ attention from Week 2 of The Voice and if the Coach Replay button was used a second time.

Another impressive four-chair turn

If you thought last week’s 7-second four-chair turn for Sofronio Vasquez was impressive, the coaches were even quicker to turn around for Tanner Frick once they decided they were all in. The singer from Manchester, Tenn., wowed all four coaches with his cover of “Thought You Should Know” by Morgan Wallen, the country star who competed on The Voice in Season 6. It took only four seconds for all four chairs to turn.

After hearing only a verse or two, the coaches seemed to agree that he had something special. As Stefani summed up in her assessment, “Where everybody got won over was when you sang with your full voice. Your uniqueness came through.” Once McEntire pressed her button, though, it seemed clear who Frick would choose — much to everyone else’s envy. Sure enough, he chose Team Reba.

Most unique rendition

Up until now, soloists had been dominating The Voice stage, so it was a welcome sight to see the season’s first musical trio. Called the 323, the group consists of three church friends from Tallahassee, Fla., in various stages of life. Because of their wide age gap, this was, as they said in their introduction package, their “last hurrah” when it came to pursuing music professionally.

Unlike other trios who have competed, the 323 stepped outside the box with their musical approach. Covering Britney Spears’s “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” they didn’t stick to typical three-part conventions when it came to harmonizations, vocal arrangements and reinterpreting the song. Their originality excited McEntire, who was the first to press her button. (She also got her start performing in a trio with her siblings, the Singing McEntires.) The combination of a great song choice, tight harmonies and undeniable talent landed them on Team Reba.

A coach’s do-over

Age really is just a number. Gail Bliss, the oldest singer in the competition at 61 years old, didn’t let her age stop her. A professional singer for 37 years, one of her bucket list goals was to make it onto The Voice. Though her cover of “If It Hadn’t Been for Love” by The Steeldrivers roused the audience, none of the coaches turned their chairs for her. It was a disappointing turn of events for Bliss.

That is … until Snoop, who has truly lived up to his “wild card” moniker so far, brought up the Coach Replay power that can only be used once by each coach. (McEntire already used hers last week on Kendall Eugene.) “If I was to press this red button right now, you would be on my team,” the rapper said as he pressed the button, landing Bliss onto Team Snoop.

Who turns our chair

Monday’s episode featured a strong pool of performers, but special kudos go to Kamila Kiehne, who struck a chord with her powerful cover of “Black Velvet” by Canadian singer Alannah Myles. Within seconds of her opening note, three of the four coaches (Snoop, Bublé and McEntire) pressed their buttons.

Bublé was dead set on drafting Kiehne on his team; if there was one coach with the most visceral reaction to her performance, it was Bublé. After some back and forth, Kiehne joined Bublé’s team. “I didn’t want to say it because I didn’t want to put pressure on her, but it really reminded me of when I saw Kelly Clarkson for the very first time,” Bublé said.

Quote of the night

“I am now Snoopy Bublé, his illegitimate brother,” Snoop Dogg said about Bublé, after saying the crooner reminds him of his own cousins or uncles.

A look ahead to next week

Get set for more Blind Auditions! Two coaches have used up their Coach Replay power, so it’s up to Bublé and Stefani to decide whether they’d like a do-over. At the moment, the teams are pretty evenly split, with Team Reba at four singers, Team Gwen at five, Team Snoop at five and Team Bublé at four. Who else will be filling up the rosters? We’ll find out next week.
