“I would choose Cassidy” — The Voice coach Reba McEntire praises the contestant’s singing

Michael chose Hero by Mariah Carey for Cassidy and Cameron because he wanted them to “be the hero” of their own stories and showcase their journeys through the song. Cassidy drew on personal experience for the Battle and brought up her father’s passing in 2017 from liver cancer. She confessed her mother had “always been the calm in the storm” and helped her become her “own hero” after her father’s demise.

Meanwhile, Cameron drew on the struggles of growing up Black and queer. He stated that the song helped him flaunt his “bold” personality and made him realize that he did not need to “conform to anyone’s idea of normativity.”

Their performance captivated the audience and the coaches. The Voice coach Snoop Dogg refrained from picking a winner but confessed he was on the verge of tears, moved by their emotional Battle. The rapper complimented Cameron’s ability to let the song “grow as opposed to starting off so big” and praised Cassidy for perfectly pulling off the big notes.

Reba was mesmerized by the singers’ vocal skills. She said:

“Cameron, you’re a powerhouse. You’re very active on the stage, very active vocally. And then Cassidy was like a hug. It felt safe to me, it felt comforting. I would choose Cassidy.”

The Voice coach Gwen Stefani chimed in on their performance and commended Cassidy for championing such a “challenging” song. Cassidy’s ability to present a “different take” on the song impressed the coach. She was equally blown away by Cameron’s powerful voice, confessing she was taken aback by his “superpower, crazy” notes. Consequently, she chose Cameron as the Battle’s winner.

After considering all reviews, Michael declared Cameron the champion. However, Reba stole Cassidy and kept her journey on The Voice alive. Reba explained that she was looking for someone who could touch her heart, impress her, and hold her own, and she found those qualities in Cassidy.
