Gwen Stefani spills on ‘almost kissing’ Leonardo DiCaprio
Gwen Stefani spilled the tea on how she almost shared a steamy kiss with Leonardo DiCaprio, and the story is as ‘wild’ as her fashion choices.
While chatting about her legendary style with Harper’s Bazaar on Wednesday, the 55-year-old singer took a trip down memory lane, reminding fans that she once starred alongside the matinee idol—playing his on-screen love interest back in 2004.
‘Not in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine I would be in a film,’ she confessed to the outlet. ‘But not only was I in a film, but I was in a Martin Scorsese film playing Jean Harlow, and I almost got to kiss Leonardo DiCaprio.’
Gwen took on the role of the iconic 1930s blonde bombshell in The Aviator, Scorsese’s biopic about the enigmatic Howard Hughes, played by DiCaprio.
But alas, she didn’t get to lock lips with the heartthrob. ‘But I didn’t get to, so too late for that,’ Gwen mused with a chuckle.
Filming the movie, which also starred Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, and Jude Law, turned out to be ‘one of the most incredible, scary experiences’ of Gwen’s life.

‘I didn’t have any skills, I just tried out,’ she recalled.
‘I went to the Bel-Air Hotel, and they were just literally trying out girls—just walking in and trying out. I remember I walked in, did the scene, and they were so nice. Martin made me feel so normal and comfortable, and I got the part!’
She laughed, adding, ‘I had like 3 lines, but I got the part, okay?!’
At the time of filming The Aviator in 2004, Gwen was married to Gavin Rossdale, her husband of nearly a decade, though their relationship would eventually end in 2016.
Leonardo, on the other hand, was known for his high-profile relationships with models, and during the production of the film, he was reportedly dating Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen.
Gwen’s acting anecdote comes after she revealed she was almost cast as Jane Smith, the married spy in 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
‘I feel like I almost got it,’ she told The Howard Stern Show in 2016. ‘I went to a bunch [of auditions].’
She added, ‘[It was] very competitive and I wanted to do it, but I wanted to do music more.’

As we know, Angelina Jolie ultimately landed the role, starring opposite Brad Pitt, who was still married to Jennifer Aniston at the time.
The pair are said to have sparked their whirlwind romance while filming, and Pitt eventually separated from Aniston. Pitt and Jolie married in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2019.
Meanwhile, Gwen divorced Gavin Rossdale in 2016 and married Blake Shelton in 2021.
As for Leo, he’s since moved on with Italian model Victoria Ceretti.
