The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their winning streak to six games with a dominant, 8-2 victory, over the Miami Marlins, led by a terrific start from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and a grand slam from Max Muncy.
However, the night didn’t get off to a good start as Jazz Chisholm Jr. greeted Yamamoto with a home run on the first pitch he saw. It was a 95 mph fastball over the heart of the plate, but Yamamoto settled in right after.
He threw 19 strikes to open the game, and did not allow a baserunner from the second inning until the fourth inning. Yamamoto ended up allowing another solo home run in the sixth inning, but that was all the Marlins were able to score against him.
He ended up pitching into the seventh inning for the first time in his MLB career, where he worked a scoreless frame, and went back out for the eighth. His final inning proved to be slightly more of a challenge as he allowed a single, but he was able to escape with no damage allowed.
He finished the outing with eight innings pitched, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and no walks. He has cemented himself as one of the premiere pitchers in Major League Baseball.
It was Muncy’s sixth career grand slam, which places him sixth all-time in the Dodgers’ record books. Gil Hodges is the all-time leader with 14, and the next closest players are Carl Furillo and Mike Piazza with eight each, while Matt Kemp and Cody Bellinger are tied with seven.
The Dodgers added on with another four-run inning in the third as Andy Pages put them up 5-1 with a sacrifice fly. A throwing error by Chrisitan Bethancourt scored another Dodgers’ run.
Then Gavin Lux blasted his first home run sine August 2022 with a two-run shot, giving the Dodgers their eighth run of the game.
Dodgers go for second consecutive sweep
After sweeping the Atlanta Braves, the Dodgers now have a chance to sweep the Marlins with an early, 12:10 p.m. PT game on Wednesday.Gavin Stone is scheduled to face Ryan Weathers, and the Dodgers will likely have many of their platoon players in the lineup with the day game after a night game.
