Country star Reba McIntire used her industry connections to win over a singer on The Voice. She pretended to ring up former show judge Keith Urban
Reba McIntire made a play for a competitor on The Voice by involving her friend.
Ronnie Wilson delivered a stunning rendition of Zayn Malik’s Pillowtalk, causing Reba and John Legend to turn around in their chairs and plead their case. When asked, Ronnie said that “gospel is a heavy influence, but also country music. A lot of country music.” John could immediately realize the issue with this statement, joking to Ronnie to avoid looking over at Reba.
Before the All of Me singer could get much further in his bid, Reba cut him off. “Nicole, would you put Keith on the phone, please?” Reba pretended to be on the phone with Nicole Kidman who is married to country legend Keith Urban.”
She continued: “Yeah. Keith, how you doing? Yeah, we’re here on The Voice. If you were on The Voice, who would you want to coach you? Me? Nicole said her, too? Talk to you later. Bye.”
Obviously, Reba’s country connections are an enticing reason to choose her, but the star continued to flatter Ronnie. She added: “You have a quality this just makes a person feel good — and I’m thrilled that you like country music. I’ve been in the business for going on fifty years, so I think I could help you to embellish, not change because you’re absolutely wonderful and I’d love to have you on my team.”

John made his plea, too, with a much more personal way. Ronnie said he is a full-time accountant who lives in Atlanta, GA. “I know what it’s like to be in that 9-5,” John said. Before reaching fame, he ‘crunched numbers’ and worked behind the scenes in the industry, so he was banking on the relatability factor.
“What I loved about the performance is that you created moments by being creative with the melody. You made the song your own,” he added, sweetly. Ultimately, Ronnie chose to join John’s team and fans will be seeing more of him once the blind auditions come to a close.
Interestingly enough, the song that Ronnie chose had a connection to the show. Zayn Malik was in One Direction with Niall Horan who was a judge on the show for the best two seasons.
