On Monday night, the Golden State Warriors overcame a slow start to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 112-102 behind the 21 points and 20 rebounds of Jonathan Kuminga and Klay Thompson.

After missing one game due to a sprained right ankle in the first half of Tuesday’s loss in Houston, rookie Victor Wembanyama of San Antonio returned with 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Gregg Popovich, the coach of the Spurs, stated he is uncertain if Wembanyama will suit up against Houston on Tuesday.

 

For the Spurs, Keldon Johnson scored 16 points and Devin Vassell added 17.

In the last minute, Trayce Jackson-Davis, a rookie for the Warriors, scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. He also forced Wembanyama, a 7-foot-4 rookie from San Antonio, to the floor with a one-handed dunk.

Thompson went back into the starting lineup since Stephen Curry was still out. Thompson made 8 of 21 field goals, 4 of which came from 3-point range.

 

The Spurs, who had defeated the Warriors 126-113 on Saturday in the absence of Wembanyama and Vassell, were unable to maintain a balanced effort even with their two best players returning.

 

After accumulating 34 assists on Saturday, San Antonio only had 27.

 

Driven by a 19-0 run that started four minutes into the second half, Golden State defeated San Antonio 32–18 in the third quarter. The Spurs trailed 86-72 after a 4 1/2-minute stretch in which they missed eight shots and made four mistakes.

 

With 37 seconds left in the first quarter, a 3-pointer by Johnson gave San Antonio a 36-25 advantage. In the final 2:40, Chris Paul scored 8 points to keep the deficit in check.

 

Paul scored 19 points in the end.
