‘I’d never rule out real estate’: Oprah Winfrey addresses rumours of a permanent move to Australia as she continues her five-city speaking tour through the country

She hinted at a permanent move to Australia ahead of her current visit to the country.

And during the first stop of her five-city speaking tour in Melbourne on Tuesday, Oprah Winfrey addressed the rumours again.

According to Daily Telegraph, the 61-year-old iconic television personality told media: ‘I’d never rule out real estate’.

During the press conference, Oprah also detailed her life story and spoke about her last visit Down Under, five years ago.

She explained that the December 2010 trip came at the end of her 25 year-running, self-titled talk show and that at the time she was worried about her next career steps.

‘I knew that would take some adjusting as to who are you now without that platform,’ she said. ‘And then the building and creating of a network and starting from scratch and all that it takes to do that.’

After Melbourne, where she kicks off her An Evening With Oprah tour on Wednesday night, the American powerhouse will continue on to Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, and Sydney, and will finish up in New Zealand.

Ahead of the trip, she told Woman’s Day magazine, ‘If things ever get tough, I know I can find a country in Australia’.

‘One of the reasons why I wanted to return is because of the Aussies and the way I was treated there and how I was made to feel there,’ Oprah told the publication.

Seeing new places: During her last visit Oprah made appearances in only Sydney ad Melbourne where she filmed her long-running talk show, but during this visit she’ll add Adelaide, Brisbane, and Perth to the itinerary

Speaking to A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw last month about her last visit, Oprah said Australia made a ‘heart print on my soul that I have never forgotten’.

People could expect ‘more of me’, she said of her upcoming tour, which starts early next month.

Her last trip was focused on her television show and she was surprised at her popularity in the country.

AN EVENING WITH OPRAH TOUR DATES:

Wednesday 2 December – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

Friday 4 December – Adelaide Entertainment Centre

Monday 7 December – Perth Arena

Thursday 10 December – Brisbane Entertainment Centre

Saturday 12 December – Allphones Arena, Sydney

Wednesday 16 December – Auckland

This time around, she will be sharing her life story – and there is a lot to tell.

Her story is one of rags to riches.

Despite being born in poverty she rose to prominence popularising talk shows with her ‘confessional’ style, and going on to run her own television network.

Speaking to A Current Affair, Oprah said she never had a strategy to develop a certain style, however, she always had a plan for what she wanted to achieve.

Her practice of discussing her own life and issues on television began when she felt like a ‘phony’ for not commiserating with a young girl who was recounting her story of abuse.

‘I want other people who are going through things to know they are not alone,’ she told A Current Affair.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Oprah’s management for comment.
