Prior to joining the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid was let go by the Philadelphia Eagles after spending 14 years with that franchise.

The Philadelphia Eagles fired head coach Andy Reid. Yes, it’s been exactly 10 years since the Kansas City Chiefs head coach was let go from his previous head coaching job. After 14 seasons in Philadelphia, the franchise felt it was time to move on from Reid.

The Eagles finished the 2011 season 8-8 while going 4-12 in 2012. It was the only time during Reid’s 14-year tenure in Philadelphia that the Eagles missed the playoffs in back-to-back years.

Despite not capturing a Super Bowl during Reid’s 14-year run in Philadelphia, Reid brought a lot of success to the Eagles organization. The Eagles went 130-93-1under Reid’s guidance from 1999 to 2012, which is the sixth-best record in the NFL during that timespan, according to Statmuse. In that same timespan, the Eagles won 10 playoff games, tying the New York Giants for the fourth most postseason victories in the NFL, according to Statmuse.

Successfully reaching the playoffs nine times in 14 seasons, Reid led the Eagles to five NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. The Eagles won the NFC East six times with Reid.

During the same 14-year time frame, the Chiefs went 98-126. The Chiefs won the AFC West just twice and appeared in the postseason three times, losing all three games. The Chiefs hired five head coaches from 1999 to 2012 as Dick Vermeil retired. Gunther Cunningham, Herm Edwards, Todd Haley, and Romeo Crennel were all fired by the Chiefs.

Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt knew the Chiefs were in desperate need to find someone who would bring notable success to the franchise. Hunt needed to find someone who would bring an end to Kansas City’s postseason drought. He sought Reid, who was also being aggressively pursued by the Arizona Cardinals.

In the end, Hunt brought Reid to Kansas City, in hopes that Reid would help the Chiefs find success, which has happened. Had the Eagles kept Reid, it is possible the Chiefs would not have the success they have now.
