NFL sends ‘apology’ over Super Bowl halftime show snub following Kendrick Lamar performance

SKIP BAYLESS claimed the NFL sent Lil Wayne an apology after choosing Kendrick Lamar for the halftime show.

Lil Wayne – real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. – was overlooked for the performance in New Orleans.

Skip Bayless opened up on Lil Wayne’s disappointment at being snubbed
It sparked outrage, given Lil Wayne’s famous association with the Big Easy – where he was born and raised.

Lamar’s subsequent performance was slammed by some underwhelmed fans as the worst in Super Bowl history.

Prior to the show, sports commentator Skip Bayless expressed anger at Lil Wayne’s New Orleans snub.

And he claimed the NFL issued an apology to him back in September after offering it to Lamar.

“The NFL immediately sent Wayne a letter of apology,” Bayless said on his YouTube show.

“From nobody in particular, just from the league on NFL letterhead.

“A letter that thanked him for his years of supporting the league, not just the Packers, his favorite team, but supporting and promoting the NFL, in general, which he has.

“I mean, he makes weekly appearances on the NFL’s Sunday pregame show, ‘NFL GameDay Morning’ on the NFL Network.

“But he will not play Sunday’s halftime show, and he definitely won’t watch a second of Sunday’s halftime show.

“He will watch the game, just not the halftime show. Not one second.”

Bayless – a friend of Lil Wayne – also revealed the devastating effect the snub had on the legendary rapper.

“When the news first broke, it hit Wayne hard,’ the 73-year-old analyst said.

“He didn’t feel like doing much of anything for several long days and nights. He’s better now.”

Lil Wayne also opened up on the disappointment at not being given the chance to perform in his home city.

“I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position,” he said on Instagram Live.

“I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city.

“So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot.”

The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 to win the Super Bowl.

But Grammy winner Lamar hit unwanted headlines for his performance of Not Like Us – a diss to rap rival Drake.

He even had Drake’s rumored ex-girlfriend – tennis icon Serena Williams – dance on the pitch to the lyrics.
