It was the below viral clip, however, that swept the internet like wildfire. The clip in question shows DiCaprio pulling some suspect face movements as Lady Gaga brushes past him on her way to the stage upon winning Best Actress in a Miniseries for American Horror Story: Hotel.

DiCaprio has officially weighed in on the subject of what actually happened – and his excuse, it has to be said, is disappointingly underwhelming.

During his backstage press conference after winning Best Actor in a Drama for The Revenant, ET asked him what had exactly happened.

“Oh lord, that’s trending, huh?” the actor said before innocently stating: “I just didn’t know what was passing me – that was all!”

Talking about the film, the actor said: “This is a type of film that you won’t see coming out of the Hollywood studio system very often.

“It’s an epic art film and I’m just so happy it got recognised tonight.”
