The Lakers have confirmed their All-Star duo’s participation in the Paris Olympics. LeBron James and Kevin Durant, representing Team USA, kicked off their Olympic campaign with a convincing 110-84 win over Serbia. Despite the strong performance, James acknowledged that the team has room for improvement, particularly in managing turnovers.
“We’ll all get better with our turnovers,” James said after the game, via NBC Olympics and Paralympics. “Obviously, we’re trying to make the right plays, so you can never exclude that. With some of the careless turnovers that we had, we can give ourselves even more possessions offensively. We’ll be better coming up on Wednesday.”
In the opening game, Team USA committed 17 turnovers, a statistic that raised concerns for the squad moving forward. James had six of those turnovers, notably higher than his average from the recent NBA season. While the team celebrated the victory, they recognized that careless mistakes could be costly in future matchups.
James contributed significantly to the win, scoring 21 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and dishing out nine assists. His scoring was second only to Kevin Durant, who led the team with 23 points. This performance follows a strong showing in the USA Basketball Showcase, where James averaged 14.1 points per game.
This marks James’ fourth Olympic appearance, and he aims to help Team USA secure their fifth consecutive gold medal in men’s basketball. The next challenge for the squad will be against South Sudan on July 31
