Team USA’s incredible journey at the 2024 Paris Olympics ended with LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant leading the team to a victory over France that secured them a gold medal. Seeing the trio play together for the first time was a dream come true for basketball fans around the globe. But how was this team-up possible in the first place?

KD reveals LBJ recruited NBA stars

According to the Phoenix Suns superstar, it was LBJ who actively started recruiting NBA players for the 2024 Summer Games. KD broke down James’ approach in a recent report by Sam Amick of The Athletic.

“Last summer, ‘Bron started texting everybody, giving his input on who we all think should be on the team, and (asking) if everybody was playing,” Durant said. “When we start sending those (kinds of) texts out, I kind of knew we were all going to get together and that this was a special time.”

It was indeed a special run for the three legends. After the final game, Durant became the first-ever male basketball player to win four gold medals. James won the Olympics for the third time in his career, while Curry got his first gold medal in his tournament debut.

Will LeBron, KD, and Steph play for U.S. again?

As good as the trio was throughout the Olympics, this was probably the last time they would share the court.

James and Curry openly said that they will most likely not return for the 2028 Olympics. On the other hand, Durant didn’t completely write off the possibility of suiting up for USAB in Los Angeles, even though he will be 39.

“As far as 2028, who knows, man,” the superstar forward said.

With the dream Olympics run over, KD, LBJ, and Curry will go back to preparing for the 2024-25 NBA season with their respective teams. The next time they face off against each other, it will be as rivals on different teams.

Then again, there’s always a chance some of them team up and play together in the league. It wouldn’t be the first time the Olympic Games opened the door for the creation of an NBA superteam.
