Kelly Clarkson confirmed she would not be returning to season 24 of The Voice after struggles behind the scenes.

Kelly Clarkson surprises fan on street

Kelly Clarkson has confirmed her departure from The Voice after first joining the singing competition as a coach in 2018.

Although she insisted she cherished her time on the show, Kelly revealed she “couldn’t be in LA” anymore.

As the series is filmed in Los Angeles, the singer would reside there for a season before heading to New York for her acclaimed talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

In an interview with USA Today, she shared: “I’ve learned a lot about what I’m capable of handling, and also what you should not handle.

“That was me saying ‘bye’ to The Voice and having this big move.”

Kelly continued: “I love that family, but I was like, ‘I’m struggling. I can’t smile anymore. I don’t feel like smiling.’”

Although the Texas native admitted she wanted to move to Montana, she relocated to New York which is a convenient distance from her daytime talk show.

The move has seemingly had a great impact on Kelly and her family as she admitted she’s in a “great place” now.

“I knew I needed a fresh start and couldn’t be in LA, I really wanted to be in Montana, but you can’t really do a show from there quite yet. So I was like, ‘The only other option would probably be New York.’”

After a few weeks in the Big Apple, she added to USA Today: “I genuinely love it, and I love that my kids love it.

“I feel like a weight has lifted. That move was very needed.

“I think the thing I’m most excited about with season five, on a selfish level, is just showing up to work smiling and actually meaning it. That’s a beautiful gift that you don’t realize until you’re out of it.”

Following her departure, The Voice introduced country music star Reba McEntire alongside returning coaches Niall Horan, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani.
