John Wall was one of the NBA’s best during the 2010s. The point guard last played for the LA Clippers in the 2022-23 season; he still hasn’t announced his retirement, but Wall is without a team for the current season.

However, John Wall made headlines recently not for basketball-related reasons, as he spoke about his mental health issues on the “The OGs” podcast with ex-NBA stars Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller, most specifically about his mom’s death.

John Wall’s struggles

Wall said that he struggled so severely after her mom passed away due to breast cancer back in 2019 that he contemplated suicide and almost took his life. Still, he ultimately chose not to do it because of his two sons, and he also went to see a therapist and still does to this day.

My mom was my best friend. I put a gun to my head twice and a lot of people that are close to me, friends at the time didn’t know. If I take myself away from this Earth, I’m failing my kids, like, who gon’ be able to raise them, I know I gotta be there for them.

Wall, who is still active, became the second highest-paid player in the NBA with a $47.5million-a-year contract. He was selected by the Washington Wizards with the No.1 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft and became an All-Star player in the NBA.

In 2020, he missed the entire season and, after taking home an estimated a player $276m in salary earnings, Wall has struggled to find a place in a team.
