Jeopardy! legend James Holzhauer gives himself menacing new title for Masters 2024 as change leaves fans ‘dying’
JEOPARDY! is gearing up for Masters 2024, and last year’s victor James Holzhauer is already back in his trolling era.
James, 39, who won Masters 2023, is making the game show announce him as “Self-described ‘Final Boss’ of Jeopardy!.”

Jeopardy! Masters Season 2 is premiering next Wednesday, May 1 and fans are buzzing.
Ken Jennings hosts the six-legend competition, which airs in primetime on ABC in primetime throughout the month.
Less than a week before go-time and Jeopardy! revamped its site to be all about Masters.
Now, fans can see the contestant bios and the first two pairings of matches.
In the premiere, Mattea Roach will face Matt Amodio and newcomer Yogesh Raut.
In the second half, James will face Amy Schneider, and newcomer Victoria Groce.

Fans took to Reddit to discuss the matchups and rollout, the main chatter not being how Yogesh is now bald.
The professional Las Vegas sports better opted for a new fake occupation, promoting himself after winning Masters 2023 as a “Self-Described Game Show Villain.”
“Dying at James’ wrestling fandom. Hope he brings a weight belt out to the podium,” one fan reacted.
“This is a reference to the Rock who returned to wrestling this year calling himself the “Final Boss”. I love it!” wrote another.
“I love that he’s been playing up his villain role, both here and on the chase lol,” wrote a third.
“God, I love James SO MUCH,” fangirled a fourth.
“Looking forward to Holzhauer mopping the floor with everyone else,” predicted a fifth.

Others noted that “Pennsylvania” was spelled wrong under Victoria’s name – whoops!
James leaned into his wrestler persona during Masters Season 1 and at one point, even pretended to hit opponent Andrew He with a championship belt.

Jeopardy! Masters is the game show’s elite-level event determining the best player in any given year.
The Masters grand prize is $500,000, a glitzy Alex Trebek trophy, and the title of Jeopardy! Masters Champion.
The six current highest-ranked contestants will compete in primetime on ABC in two games per hour-long episode.
Masters begins with six quarterfinal episodes in 12 matches where no one is eliminated.
The round-robin tournament will see every iteration of the contestants face off.

Then, the semifinals will begin on Friday, May 17, after the fifth and sixth placers are eliminated.
The finale will air on May 22. Two matches between the final three will determine the winner based on the highest cumulative score.
The standings last year were based on a point system where placing first, second or third, scored a player four, two or one points respectively.
James, Matt and Mattea qualified automatically by being the top three last year.
Yogesh qualified by winning the 2024 Tournament of Champions, Victoria by smashing through the recent JIT, and Amy was the Producer’s Pick.
It’s going to be tough to take down Jeopardy! James as he’s considered the best player ever aside from now-host Ken, and that’s no secret.
One major draw this year is that Victoria and James are co-stars on the ABC sister show The Chase – which has everyone excited.
Some fans think newcomer Victoria may give James a run for his money.
“Victoria really impressed me with her buzzer skills when she was on Jeopardy’s Invitational Tournament,” one Redditor recently wrote.
“Victoria vs James is gonna be epic, two chasers from The Chase playing against each other!” wrote another.
Masters airs across May at 8 p.m. on ABC and will not interfere with regular gameplay, as both the regular show and Masters will air those nights.
