Jeopardy! fans were left baffled after a contestant won with an ‘illegible’ Final Jeopardy answer.

On Wednesday’s episode of the syndicated game show, Rishabh Wuppalapati, an undergraduate student at the University of Pennsylvania from Vernon Hills, Illinois, returned for his second game and won the round after ‘scribbling’ down his answer.

Some fans were not convinced that his answer deserved to be accepted due to his hasty scrawl.

The clue for the Final Jeopardy category of College Towns was: ‘Two schools in the Southeastern Conference are located in cities with this same name but in different states.’

This comes amid reports that Jeopardy host! Ken Jennings could be axed for a rather surprising reason as Colin Jost is set to host Pop Culture Jeopardy.

The correct answer was Columbia — since both the University of Missouri and University of South Carolina are located in the city of that name in their respective states.

Wuppalapati was up against Rachel Cassidy, an associate professor from Rhode Island, and Jay Eversman, an environmental lawyer from Missouri.

Cassidy’s answer was also marked correct, but Wuppalati’s took him to victory with $20,201 and a $300 margin over her final score.

However, some fans were baffled that his answer was accepted at all as his handwriting was very rushed and was seemingly ‘illegible.’

‘Man I just do not know if that said “Columbia,” one fan wrote on Reddit. ‘I guess if it’s good enough for Ken [Jennings] though.

Another viewer added: ‘Yeah, kind of a crazy call…just my opinion!’

One person said that his handwriting made his response look like ‘Cdumlaq’ rather than Columbia.

‘I couldn’t read that,’ another user added.

A fan chimed in: ‘If he hadn’t blurted out Columbia, I wonder if it would have been “recognizable.” I see the Col but the rest isn’t readable. Seems to me they’ve ruled against people with answers that were more legible than this one.’

Meanwhile another comment read: ‘I was really surprised they gave that to him in [Final Jeopardy]. It didn’t look anything like Columbia to me.

‘You can tell that’s what he was going for, but in my opinion he just didn’t write that. It looked more like “Columbine” to me.’

The same user added, ‘”Harriet Tubma” was far more legible than that. But neither hold a candle to the illegibility of Brad Rutter’s “Crete.”‘
