Fans were caught off guard when they finished the latest episode of Jeopardy!

Wednesday’s game saw Ashley Chan, a four-day champion, go up against Eric Weldon-Schilling, a bar manager and sommelier from Houston, Texas and Sarah Rosenthal, a fundraiser from New York City. Ashley, a publicist from Lewisville, Texas had won $67,400 going into the game.

However, Ashley shocked fans as her reign came to an end by a land slide. Ashley came in last place with $2,400, Sarah came in second with $11,400 and Eric became the new champion when he won with $21,000.

Fans took to Reddit to share their thoughts and theorized about why Ashley might have lost her mojo. “I wonder if it was just a bad board for Ashley or if she was getting cooked on the buzzer, because it was really shocking to see a 4 game champion get so handily beaten,” one fan wrote.

Someone replied: “I’d guess all of the above + fatigue–this was the 3rd game of the second consecutive taping day (Oct 28-29, according to the archive).” A third added: “Probably fatigue? She got incorrect answers far more frequently that her previous games, I believe.”

Others thought that maybe one wrong answer could have set the former champion back. “Ashley should have been given credit for a correct response on the $2000 clue in 3 Of A Kind,” one person said, “Among possibly other places, there are multiple Eagle Lakes in Minnesota, a Lake Orion in Michigan, and a Lagoon Lake near Lakeland, Florida.”

Overall, fans enjoyed watching Ashley compete. “Aww gonna miss Ashley,” someone said.

“Gonna miss Ashley and her lustrous hair! But she’ll be back, yay. #Jeopardy,” another added, referencing the possibility of Ashley being in the Tournament of Champions.

Ashley had a hard time from the start of the game, finishing the first round with $2,800 while Eric had $6,400 and Sarah had $3,800. Then going into Final Jeopardy, Ashley was still in last place with $2,400, Sarah had $8,400 and Eric had $19.600.

But while some were going to miss the Texan, others kept positive about the newest Jeopardy! champion. “Eric looked so happy at the end, I like him a lot,” someone wrote on Reddit.

Another wrote: “Good win for Eric today and a great run from Ashley.”
